Edit: You know, all of this is just destroying the series more and more and it's really sad to see. You know, it's one thing if you "replace" or "duplicate" an old character by making a new one with tits. Like what Frost was to Sub-Zero or Sakura to Ryu or Ling Xiaoyu to Wang Jinrei. etc. etc.

I suspect they also wanted to thread so many needles by 1) restoring the classic Sub-Zero/Scorpion rivalry, 2) allow Sub-Zero be a literal cold-blooded threat as Bi-Han was shown in the OG MK1 comic n' game and new movie, 3) keep the popularity of both Kuai Liang (who MADE Sub-Zero with his character development), and "Scorpion"...

...and thus Kuai got turned into "Scorpion".

While he SHOULD be Sub-Zero and ice-based.... if they had Kuai Liang 100% keep his classic personality and, outside the spear for gameplay purposes, give him a bunch of elemental-fire specials to differentiate him from Hanzo (who had no such moves in the first couple games outside his Toasty fatality - he was more like a classic ninja relying on magic and weaponry) it could've worked. Hell, I confess I even like the contrast to Bi-Han's ice and complement to Smoke's smoke.

But nope. They shove Hanzo's rageful character into his personality via a contrived reason of Bi-Han allowing daddy to die, have him cuck Hanzo by marrying Harumi, and have him found the Shirai Ryu in Japan despite pretty clearly being a lifelong Chinese and Lin Kuei loyalist. And it simply doesn't work because he can't be both collected and rageful, it feels awful seeing him cuck his former friend, and his heart belongs to the Lin Kuei and the old Kuai would've fought Bi-Han to become the clan's Grandmaster exactly like he fought Sektor instead of running off to form a spinoff clan like a bitch.

He feels so unnatural now. I COULD accept him using the Scorpion name, spear, and fire element if he remained his true self otherwise, a calm contrast to Bi-Han's hotheaded cyromancer... but he's an artificial cross of himself and Hanzo. And so I find myself missing the real Kuai, the real Sub-Zero.

Kuai as Scorpion sounds good on paper, but the execution meddling is fucking shit that it does not look like Kuai Liang, as some of his moves are derived from Hanzo, making him a clusterfuck of what supposed to be a reverse role of Kuai to Scorpion, and Hanzo turns into a little boy. If you want a Kuai Scorpion, just make Kuai's pyro moves more Kuai by based from his older moves instead of cucking Hanzo even more. Hanzo got shat on so bad by NRS that it is unreal, even that Invasion mode skin that was supposed to have Hanzo's skin and everything, including his MKDA alt skin, and the end result sucks cock when he still has the same voice.

NRS fucked up seriously bad, and his story is so clusterfuck that I could not read it or comprehend it properly. I guess in a newfag's quote, it is Liu Kang's alteration that he ends up like this. Even the classic MKDA skin of Kuai's still has Bi-Han's voice. They are really faithful in quantity over quality, money over effort, and that really shows.

My autism demands that if you look at the ninjas in OG MK1 and 2, Bi-Han's only ice move was the Iceball, Scorpion's only fire move the Toasty fatality, and Reptile's only acid move the Acid Spit. The Sub-Zero/Reptile slides didn't indicate elemental powers yet, Scorpion's TP Punch was after-images than a fire-teleport, Reptile's invisibility was chameleon-based and Force Ball a generic energy projectile. It was Kuai in MK2 that went entirely all-in on his element in fatalities and specials, and it influenced the others in MK3 onward with more hellish finishers for Scorpion, an acid puke one for Reptile, and the new ninjas also going all-in elementally in their movesets.

So imagine if NRS was smart and did what you suggested! Keep the Spear cause "Scorpion". A Fire Clone or MKDA-esque Shaker that would stun an approaching enemy on fire for a free hit, a firey MKDA-esque Shoulder Slam/overhead special, throwing flames at the enemy's feet a la the MK2 Ice Puddle, blahblah. It would fit Kuai in a meta-sense he relies entirely on his element while making an inherited mantle (Sub, Scorp, etc.) uniquely his own.

Story-wise... well, Kuai and Smoke were already on the run in MK3. It wouldn't kill NRS to keep them on their own like Kuai was in MK4 till he won leadership of the Lin Kuei by MKDA. But I could not tell you what to do with Kid Hanzo unless they made him Noob somehow...easier to just have had him an adult killed by Bi-Han and somehow take the murder even worse by becoming "Noob" than "Scorpion". Would've been fantastic to see this timeline's Noob cropping up when most unexpected to build hype up on him the way he was a total mystery in the old-school days, only for the bombshell this grim-reaper murder machine ninja is Hanzo.

Spoiler: Final 'tism on lore with how they "redeemed" all the bad guys and are now suffering for villains.

You know, the complaint that MK now has so very few villains because they "UwU redeemed all those poor misunderstood characters" for the twitter stans' sake cheeses me off because you could use their newer characterizations - many of which I actually think are decent/have potential -to give background to them BEFORE going heavily in on the "it's in our blood" far more than they did:

-I don't mind Mileena being human-born! ....but she should've been second-born and intensely jealous of her sister Kitana being heir.
-I don't mind Tarkat as a disease! ....but it should not only turn its afflicted into bloodthirsty monsters but bring out their worst impulses - Mileena ready to kill her sister to take the throne and Baraka's sympathy for his people would see them a barbarian horde plundering and raping like a pack of locusts.
-I don't mind Tanya as a religious zealot and Edenian patriot, or the Umgadi an update of Deception's Edenian Knights! ...but she should lose faith in the monarchy and Edenian gods, secretly turn to Shinnok, and get both drunk on power and think what's good for her is good for Edenia and thus start her rivalry with fellow Umgadi/Knight, Jade.
-I don't mind Rain starting out as a mage and fellow Edenian patriot, you can even have him adopted by a general like his MK3 ending! ...but he should've learned his half-divine heritage and his megalomania rapidly develop.
-I don't mind Outworld and Edenia as one singular world, they didn't have that much individually and post-split their natives interacted with each other so much it they may as well be factions within the same realm! ...but they should've had Shao successfully use his peasant rebellion to carve out his own state or preferably take over the whole thing. And of course Reiko, Shang Tsung, Goro, Baraka, Mileena, Reptile, etc. join him for ultimately false promises while the good guys like Li Mei, Jade, etc. coalesce around the monarchy Sindel and Kitana represent.

There. Sympathetic backgrounds or motivations for several it makes sense for, but ultimately all of them still give into irredeemable choices if they were't evil all along. In turn Liu Kang realizes even with Geras's help he's seen things turn into a repeat of history and is forced to finally see how hard it was for his Raiden to protect Earth, even with some of the advantages he set up. MK13 can see him setting up magical protections for Earth that can still gradually be weakened by outsiders like Shao's new Khanate, leading to a tournament away from prying eyes....

Real late to the game on this, so my apologies in advance. I bought MK 11 Ultimate (on sale $8.99). I've been tuned out to MK since they went polygonal, but I really, really liked MKs 1 thru 3.

I bought it mainly as I wanted to give Rambo a spin, and he's pretty badass.

I played thru the first part of the story mode..gotta say I was pretty impressed with the cinematic quality of the whole thing and how smooth the transitions from story to fights were. I skipped the story parts of the Jax/Jacqui section as I'm aware of the Jax ending nonsense and desired to avoid potentially alot more of the same.
There was quite a bit of "girl power" bullshit with Cassie and Jacqui, but nothing too terrible. As a standalone story, overall I was impressed. these games have come a long way... but as a MK story, jesus this shit sure is convoluted. So now the MK universe is now like Marvel and DC with all this multiverse bullshit?... christ.

One thing, I haven't seen pointed out anywhere in the commentary about Jax ending is on the first screen, Raiden is standing behind Jax looking like he's furiously waving his hands at Jaz saying "NO you retard, DON'T!" LOL, I thought that was pretty funny.

The gameplay seems as clunky as ever (being a Street Fighter/Fatal Fury player mostly), but the OTT levels of gore, and the mostly inventive Fatalties are pretty cool. Johnny Cage steals the show in this regard, lol.

I'm glad I bought it (on sale) and the woke bullshit isn't so overwhelming that it turns me off. Is MK 1 worse as far as the woke/sjw nonsense is concerned?
