The Linux Thread - The Autist's OS of Choice

Do they make Linux for tablets? Like could I get a 7 or 8" tablet and put Linux on it?
I know there have been a few attempts at this. The Jingpad comes to mind, as well as the FydeTab. Jingpad was either the worst communicated bankruptcy in history, or a cash grab. Probably the latter. There's also the PineTab, the StarLite, and apparently Purism makes one. I don't think any of those are in the size category you're looking for, though.

Sort of in the form of postmarketOS. It's a project that's bringing Alpine Linux to various phones and tablets. There's a list of supported devices on the wiki. Camera support seems iffy, but I have installed it on my Chromebook with a detachable keyboard and it works perfectly outside of that. You can probably find a tablet of that size that works with it. I think x86 tablets run Linux just fine as well, but they're rare ever since ARM devices took over the mobile market.

"What is the user case for a good DE?"

Because they are retarded and just don't think. People working in enterprise environments without technical controls to restrict them from doing so do exactly the same shit, going to places like softonic or whatever to download some aids riddled version of whatever they're looking for instead of going to the official distributors site, it's really a universal problem
Android has this retarded feature too and sometimes what I'm looking for isn't even in the Play Store full stop. Don't be retarded, there's no official download sometimes, also what do you do with pirated content? Hasn't happened yet because flatpaks are rare ASF , but what if I go to Pirate Bay, find a flatpak and then get this warning, do you think I'm stupid to ignore it or?
Also now that I think about it even MacOS and Windows have both this retarded feature. The one area Linux could have had the upper edge on something and they don't even take it.

I've had to use gnome in a semi-professional capacity and it's beyond fucking horrible. Maybe if you stripped the DM and used something lighter and with sane keybinds. IBM sucks cock. Redhat sucks cock. Combining the two and packaging it with gnome makes me want to gauge my eyeballs.

To all the Loonix kiddies...

Ricing is fun, but don't let it get in the way of learning how to build software and maintain systems. I distro hopped through HS and College (Ubuntu -> Debian -> Arch -> Void -> Gentoo). For years, all of my development (mostly C) was done on a machine with a self-built window manager (previously dwm), st, dmenu, and a vanilla build of Vim.

These days I run Fedora or Linux Mint and develop with VSCodium for text editing and a tmux session for anything terminal. Ill reserve the first 64 or 128 GB of a disk for the OS and the rest is a /home partition. If I want to reinstall, I leave the /home partition. The only setup required after install is adding source /home/[user]/Files/.profile to my .bashrc/.profile and installing a few applications. The stability and time saving is more important than having the "best" machine possible.

This is not to say that ricing is useless, I learned a lot during the process, however, it should not come in the way getting shit done and learning useful skills. Keep it as hobby on a separate drive. Not a single employer I have had ever cared that my OS idled at < 128 MB of RAM usage.

Pro Tip - Don't dd while drinking, lost a good English paper that way.

Andreas Kling, who started the Serenity OS project, recently broke Ladybird (the browser) off from Serenity and announced funding and intentions of going forward with developing it into a fully functional browser and engine to compete with Firefox/Gecko and Chromium.

Immediately, troons from the fediverse dug up a 3 year old github thread where an attempt was made to pressure him into a CoC/"gender neutral language" and he told them no. Now we will see if he will get successfully cancelled (funding revoked?) or will fold.

It's looking like he won't fold, as he's been gently memeing about it on twitter.

Really does feel like troons are taking an increasing frequency of L's nowadays.

I hope the guy who works with him (co-founder of Github) remembers what happened when he let "Coraline" in. First they forced a CoC, then removed the Github motto about meritocracy and a few years later the company got acquired by Microsoft.

I'm pretty sure this is some kind of weird personal vendetta, but it's cool that you can get all the troons of Mastodon to attack someone for spurious reasons.

More troons trying to take over and ruin everything.
Already knew NixOS was getting taken over, but the article does a good job laying everything out since I couldn't be assed to put together 4 million /g/ threads on it. Guix is what I'll give a shot.
Also, nice to know that openSuSE shouldn't be used either. Another huge chunk of distros I won't waste time trying.

edit: And elementary. Oh god oh no what will we do.
