My only complaint is him calling the powder O&M ball powder. He should have called out the manufacturer for who they were, Winchester Ammunition. The reason they wanted to use it was they had a really good deal with Winchester for WC 846 for the powder as it was used and still is used in 7.62x51.

Ivan skews way the other way claiming that there was no sabotage from the army. I think both have biases however the real problem was that the ordnance branch specifically was pissy they didn’t get to meddle in the design stage. I will agree that the forward assist is a valid addition to the gun. The removal of the chrome lining and the powder change are the 2 that really were sabotage.
With regards to the powder the military will always prefer a ball powder. It’s easier to make, and thus cheaper, along more consistent when loading which leads to smaller shot to shot charge variances. Ordinance fucked up by deciding the WC846 we were already buying tons of it for use in 7.62x51 could just be substituted in .223 Remington. The fact that it took Olin Winchester less then 3 years from the Ichord hearings to have WC844 accepted as the powder for use in M193 means that it wasn’t a hard fix. If Ordinance had asked for a ball powder for use in .223 from the beginning it would have never have been an issue. In fact to this day all flavors of 5.56x45 made by LC are loaded with WC844

Glad Matt was the first big Guntuber to talk about the rule changes, he's probably the best person to criticize the changes given what his content is like. I think its interesting that he says Youtube got 10+ big Guntubers together in a zoom call to tell them about the rule changes and explain them. That's actually somewhat nice and professional of YouTube, the rule changes are stupid and shouldn't have been done, but the fact Youtube actually informed the biggest channels in a meeting what the changes effectively mean is much better than what they used to do.
Smart move for YouTube to get buy-in at the top. Helps prevent a mass migration or another attempted competitor. Whenever a company explains new terms they usually present the narrowest, friendliest interpretation at first. In reality, on enforcement you get the broadest interpretation from an unnamed employee and no appeal.
In the meantime they can slowly twist the screw each year. Given that YOU can't show a machine gun but Hollywood can, we know what the target really is.
