I know "friendtank" is a hated meme and concept but I gotta say, some of the friendtank moments were peak comfy kino.
Entire season (bar some hellhouse stuff of course) felt like what you'd do when you're younger, dicking around with friends in the woods.

Perfect example was the moment was when they were all sitting around the campfire as Jimmy cooked and sang, after which the rest joined in. I truly wish that retard will get the help he needs so he can do stuff like that more often, seems he got a lot out of it.

Production did pretty good even if they blundered a bit towards the final stretch. Good balance between letting the fish do their thing and advance the plot their way and putting in "scripted cutscenes" when needed. Is this the true neptunian kino vision all along?

I feel like this is long overdue to be said "Friendtank" is a retarded /tv/ buzzword that needs to die. Some of the bests moments of each season came out of the fish just relaxing and hanging out. This weird sociopathic idea that enjoying people hanging out is bad and you need to just revel in wathcing people be tormented is retarded. We've seen time and time again happy fish create good content. Miserable fish do not. Season 2 proved this 1000 times over. You need a healthy balance of both.

It's unbelievable how bad Fatty makes the show whenever he's there. Particularly after this season, I don't know how anyone can like him.

All of his "bits" were screeching loudly non stop - so much so that either the audio was ruined or the people around him completely stopped talking/doing anything - or doing a baby voice equivalent to nails on a chalkboard. He completely sucked all energy out of the people around him, and in a way that was not even remotely entertaining. He tortures the audience more than he does the fish.

At least in a regular season you could just swap to another room and not have to see or listen to him, but this season there was no escape. I literally stopped watching and closed the stream whenever he appeared or was audible and only started watching again later when he was gone.

The only funny Fatty moment this season was when Jimmy was having another melt down after Tay died and tried to intimidate Fatty by saying the name of someone he supposedly knew. Fatty refused to break character and kept doing the baby voice while talking to him. In retrospect, I think he can probably handle Jimmy well because he’s like his schizo friend Robert. I do agree that for the most part he was extremely annoying this season.

This was regarded as "beta testing" and training for the staff and I think it did a decent job at it. The only concerns I really have is with the HD cameras, Letty made a few comments that it changed how she reacted to stuff by making her self aware, and that different camera filming styles also influenced her, Tayleigh was a major change with her "Jim Face" stuff she was doing, when she was on CCTV and POV camera she was doing just fine and acted extremely normal like her S2 self, put a HD cam in her face and she'd pay too much mind to it. That top fish of two seasons had concerns and changes in their behavior to the HD cameras is something that should be carefully considered for Season 3, the goal is always to have the most natural reactions from the fish and if they start mugging for the camera its a problem.
I'll focus on this point because I strongly disagree.
Firstly, the HD cam was present in both S1 and S2 quite a lot. Especially in S2 whenever something tense was happening, you'd see Vance or Ben jump up the stairs - camera in hand - trying to get in the middle of it. In no way the contestants were impartial or oblivious to that, their behaviours changed and they started acting out more in certain cases. We did not see "Jimfacing" happen in S2 partly because everyone was pretty new to the experience ( and as such not as comfortable with the camera ) , but also if it did happen we may never know. It will probably be cut out of the episodes to maintain a format.
What's actually sad is that the majority of this previously recorded HD content will end up trashed or lost footage that did not make the edits. It would shape the outcome of S2 to be a lot better overall if the audience had live access to it and would help explain a lot of things naturally. For example why was TJ liked by the contestants ? and why Tayleigh ended up being disliked (besides speculations)

Another thing to consider is that for S2.5 everybody was familiar with the entire premise of the show, aware of what to expect etc. They also came in with the concept of this being a LARP season, so they made an effort to show the "best" of their acting skills and use the cameras more (instead of focusing on fucking with others / winning as much.)

Then, moving forward, I personally would love to see them having the HD director camera as a staple for every new season.
It not only helps with the narrative they want to push and makes it more acceptable - Since It's easier to follow the "arc" the production wants you to if the director cam drives it forth, instead of everyone having a different viewing experience. It also makes the entire show more watchable, sets everyone on a more human level and you gain a better understanding of each contestant + you see that there are actually no bad intentions from Sam or the wigger crew and that they treat many things as just jokes.
For what it's worth, I'm sure that a lot of Xavier / Duke bits would be misconstrued & perceived as aggressive or mean-spirited if they were only viewed through an objective IPTV cam.

Closing , I think the screenshots from the past few days gathered in this thread can also attest to that and prove the point that the HD view provides a lot more watchable content. You wouldn't see Xavier's performance or Jon's antics if HD was not present and everything would feel very sterile.

I didn't expect 2.5 to be good, given 2 I expected it to be a trashfire, but they've most definitely won me over with how it turned out.

After watching the 2.5 finale live with the Fishtank chat, and sleeping on it, while I liked it a lot, I still think the season 1 finale was better. The Willy Wonka ending, awarding Letty and the other one the prizes, then everyone going outside to sing along with fatty, leaving the house empty before it cut out, was just so good and felt final.

The 2.5 finale was a fun LARP through the woods, Vance's heroic death (the best thing Vance did all season), and the chaotic, hilarious final battle with the quicktime event chat spam, the mid-fight cigarette deliveries, the nonsensical (but in a good way) plot twists of Xavier fighting the fish but then helping them defeat the Duke at the end, and the non-sequitur that was Letty revealing she's pregnant with Jon's half-vampire baby, were all great, then we got the credits of Jet thanking everyone, and the post-credits scene of sodaman and oddbod hanging out. It was a good comedown from the excitement of the finale, but it didn't have that final feeling that the S1 ending did. Things slowly petered out and faded away, just like real life.

2.5 was a very good ending, but I think 1 just beat it out. Overall, I still don't know which season I preferred. They're so different it feels wrong to even compare them.

S1 ending will extremely hard to top imo. It was just so movie like. The whole season was so fun because it was like you were part of this weird experiment.

One of my favorite bits of the whole season that was super underrated imo was Xavier never finishing explaining his backstory, he had this huge document and he would always get started reading it but something would happen to derail him every time. It was a nice touch.

Apologies if this is already posted, I found this linked in the /tv/ thread a few days ago. This totally has to be Jan, right? Account was active a week ago.

Holy shit, I scrolled all the way down and the first two paragraphs of the third post from April 2017 are identical to the first two paragraphs of Xavier's lorebook.
Jan has been working on this character for at least seven years. :story:

Lore (1).pngLore (2).pngLore (3).png

In the year of our eternal twilight, beneath the moody skies of Okinawa, I was thrust into this
mortal coil with the human moniker of Jake Adelstein. Such a common name, for one destined
to rise above the dreary existence of mere mortals. My birth, a blend of human and ethereal,
was marked by the dichotomy of my parentage. My father, a shadowy figure of immense wealth
and influence, preferred the company of his gold-laden vaults and corporate towers over the
warmth of familial bonds. A billionaire, he was cloaked in the guise of a perpetual absentee, his
presence felt only in the emptiness of our home. My mother, a humble woman of modest
means, bore the burden of our fractured family with a quiet dignity. Her strength, though often
overlooked, was the pillar upon which my early life was built.

Thus, the mantle of responsibility fell upon my young shoulders, an unwanted gift from the gods
of fate. My sister, a fragile flower in a garden of thorns, became my charge. Her innocence, a
beacon in the darkness, was both my solace and my burden. The nights were long, the days
longer still, as I navigated the treacherous waters of youth, always one step ahead of despair,
yet never far from its grasp.

Its going to be very hard for them to outdo Season 1. Besides the Wonka ending being a good ending there are just small special things at the very end, seeing the fish walk outside, seeing the garden from the living room for the first time, hearing the murmurs outside, Chris singing simple man just out of earshot... After 42 days looking at that house it had a very special feeling, like the outside world was beginning to creep back in and it offered a nice solemn closure to it all.

This is just something that was sticking out to me for a couple days and it finally clicked

When Jimmy and Letty were dueling Xavier on the tower, Xavier tried teabagging Jimmy and Jimmy called him a fuckin nig and threatened to elbow him in the balls and then told soda man and the goblin that something Xavier did was a trigger for him and to never do it again .Xavier said later that he had taken it on advisement but that Jimmy was overreacting

I think we already knew this or it had heavily been implied but, if this dm didn't make sense...

he's still an unjustifiable self destructive but I think only really low people would mock him for this. plenty of other good reasons to mock him but this. he needs therapy bad

"Friendtank" and silliness (like Xavier) is what will bring us the best season, just like in 2,5.
Sam and Jet will always somehow bring some retards that are going to fight among themselves or with literally within themselves, so there's no need for all the slow boring or puke inducing sadistic torture shit, just make cool challenges and break the house while doing stuff like most of the what they did in 2.5..... just being silly and over the top.
I think the problem with season 2 was that when they realized most of the cast were fans who wanted ~ le meet and greet with daddy Sam, production wanted to fuck with and torture them, but at the point when this was happening half of the cast already had left and the challenges were just boring torture stuff.
Like idk, I will never ever get over the hot dog puking thing, >imo< that was the lowest point in Sam's career.
