24 hours of nonstop, wall to wall media coverage and speculation for a failed assassination attempt. The copycat effect is gonna be really bad after this, especially for people around the shooter's age. Including this election onward, the average number of assassination attempts on candidates during presidential election cycles will probably be > 1.0. Would-be spree shooters who do it for notoriety are gonna pivot towards quality instead of quantity of their kills.

A week ago, I firmly believed that no "rising star" Democrat would want to run this year because they didn't want the stank of the Biden Admin to be stuck on them, and that they just didn't want to run against Trump. After last night, I feel that this is pretty much a certainty now.

Sure, Biden's dementia is no longer the hot button topic for now (trust me, it'll come back because we're still months away from the election). Instead, the current hot button topic is how badass and resilient Trump is. The media went from talking about how Biden doesn't instill confidence in leadership to live television showing Trump being a total BOSS right after he was literally centimeters away from death, showcasing the ultimate leadership.

I personally do not see how this saves Biden's ass, especially since reports are coming out that his Administration kept denying the requested Secret Service increases from the Trump campaign. You know that Trump is going to bring this up if there's another debate.

Agree on first point here. A new candidate would get blamed for the economy, immigration, the wars going on plus have to run again Trump. Its career suicide on top of the regular issues of just dropping Biden in the first place. Tulsi should have thrown her name in for a Hail Mary but I digress.

The situation saves Biden's ass because it nukes all talk of replacing him and takes his age and dementia out of the news cycle for a week and foreseeable future. That alone will be enough to survive to the convention and possibly see a poll bump as the democratic party unites behind him instead of Kamala or Newsom. 1/3 of the country is seething that the shooter missed and by the time a report that the SS fucked up comes out because of the admins failings, the election will be over. Joe won't loose any support for trying to fuck with Trump security detail sadly.

It does not solve Bidens mental decline or stop the age issue, just stops people from noticing it as much which helps Joe look stronger for now. Trump bleeding on stage after getting shot at and raising a fist is going to be near impossible to beat as Joe can barely tolerate screened questions in a quiet room. Biden will have another bad night and age will be a front page issue again. Trump then makes the argument for a strong leader, says he knows the reality of the dangers America faces, isn't in decline, and wins due to low democratic turnout.

These people see themselves as the good guys saving humanity from it's worst elements. In many ways the establishment is so afraid of social darwinism that they will do these insane polices and remove democracy and freedom to prevent social darwinists or religious people from getting a foothold in power.

It's no accident that Trump was almost taken out after years of them running agitprop painting him as a Hitler-like existential threat. They very much knew what they were doing with that propaganda, or at least someone pulling the strings did. Whether they were prepared for the outcome or not is a different story of course.
