So is Vance still the same Obama worshiping Neocon he was back in 2016 when he made Hillbilly Elegy?

Idk, I'm just not sold on Vance. I read him as a "country boy" who probably came from what real country boys would call the rich kid area (I don't know much about his actual background other than his hillbilly memoir book) and likes to aw shucks it up for his rich DC pals. First time I ever heard of him was when he was first peddling his book and I remember him being very cozied up with a lot on the left, making the talk show circuit and playing the part of the "sensible conservative calling for unity." Then he got into politics and transitioned fairly quickly from anti Trump repub to MAGA heir apparent?

This shit is just weird.
Trump started out as a Democrat too. There are a lot of former-democrats-turned-Republican's who make damn good MAGA candidates because their splits from the Democrats tend to be repudiations of their social policy while also embracing the economic-social policies of being pro-workers and supportive of American First business. It actually gives Vance more authenticity to his claimed stances.

Don't forget Reagan for sure, longtime former Dem.

Let's be real, the cap will be so high it won't impact people who are struggling to pay rent. Just another token gesture they can run in ads like student loan forgiveness.
The deeper problem is that the cap could be a dollar and it wouldn't help. Price controls never, ever solve anything and just distort the market and create insane perverse incentives that only hurt the people they're attempting to help further.

The only way to solve high prices for a good or service is to increase supply, period.

Shame I wanted Mike Flynn. But it could have been a LOT worse like DeSantis or something like that.

After the 1st debate and the shooting, it may not be worth risking a divisive or controversial pick. You don't want to kill momentum with an easily attacked target that can dominate the news cycle. And judging by the comments about changing his speech, Trump is aiming to get independents instead of shoring up his base.

So Flynn isn't necessary for the base yet is controversial. DeSantis could work, but assuming Trump keeps FL like he did in 2020, DeSantis doesn't offer good outreach. Vance is the closest thing to a blue collar, midwest/swing state candidate with nothing really controversial about him (though the media will try their hardest).

I think it's a good pick, let the media flail for a few days trying to spin up dirt about him, then Trump comes on stage with a bandaged ear and gets the spotlight back. He can stomp over Harris in a debate (low bar, I know) and spend his time campaigning in the states Trump needs to get back. Also, Vance has a decade of experience playing up his poverty-stricken roots, which will play well during 2024's inflation.

Pretty sure Trump could have chosen Putin as a VP at this point and would still be projected to win
I don't think I've ever seen something ever backfire so hard than that assassination attempt, at least not politically. Trump's one head turn has caused an insane ripple.

You can switch political parties in your lifetime that's not an issue but I think it's fair to at least be skeptical of someone who has changed their political affiliation in the last 10 years and also publicly insulted the party or the politicians of the party they are switching to.
