I know this ain't the place to complain about life, but my fucking God. It's terrible when you learn just how many people close to you are completely deranged. A personal friend of mine argued that it would be best if Trump died, and I said that it would probably cause a civil war or some serious conflict, and he had no problem with that.

In fact, he wanted it to happen, because in his words: It would help us get rid of extremists.

We always talk about Accelerationist-fags, but I think my eyes just opened to the fact that there are people on the left who also want this powder keg to explode, just so they can kill people they disagree with. It's honestly depressing.

Let's all be happy that the bullet missed.

I like Vance as a politician but he seems like the worst choice from an electoral strategy point.
It's such a strange pick. Vance is a virtual nobody, even to politically aware people. It's not the Indestructible Ticket. Maybe that's what Trump wanted. Someone down low that nobody really knew about and hadn't done anything too offensive yet to be slandered by the media?

Trump started out as a Democrat too. There are a lot of former-democrats-turned-Republican's who make damn good MAGA candidates because their splits from the Democrats tend to be repudiations of their social policy while also embracing the economic-social policies of being pro-workers and supportive of American First business. It actually gives Vance more authenticity to his claimed stances.
Trump was a Democrat back when Democrats were at least somewhat normal and weren't sterilizing kids and erecting satanic idols in courthouses. I can give that Vance probably grew up a dem or leaning left because of the union politics in the coalfields and rust belt, but there is something very ambitious and opportunistic about him. It doesn't help that he vaguely looks like a chubby Crenshaw without the eye patch.

This also seems like a shot in the foot in terms of the Senate because that seat will now likely go blue. So Trump has given the Dems at least +1 against him in the senate if he wins.

My guess is Vance is Trump's attempt to reconnect with the Midwestern swing state voters. Trump won Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania in 2016 due to his highlighting of shrinking job opportunities in the Rust Belt, and it looks like Vance has some appeal regarding that. The left and MSM will dredge up his comments about Trump from 2016, but they did the same shit to Pence in 2016.

Trump dodging so many bullets you'd think he was Neo escaping the Matrix.

A lot of the shows I've been going to, running your mouth like this would result in having to dodge shoes, rocks, and solo cups full of piss.

He's 39. Its great optics, its much harder for the Dems to play the "Drumpf is the real dotard" card when the guy who would take over if he hadn't turned his head is younger than Obama was. It puts a direct contrast vs Methuselah

His age is the big thing for me. A big problem with current politics (as can be seen with Biden) is the overwhelming amount of geriatrics.

Of Vance’s senior staff, the vast majority are men under 40, almost all are 6 feet tall and a significant percentage of them ingest some form of nicotine on a regular basis.

Also hes apparently in a mixed race marriage with a few kids, Jeets at that (he has a kid named Vivek lol). Could be really useful as thats a growing demographic with some significant power. Not that I am a big fan of them but it doesnt hurt.

Don't worry, knowing it's Kyle Gas, there was probably piss involved afterwards.

The irony in someone saying they want to set off a civil war that will ruin countless lives so they can kill people calling others "extremists"

After the 1st debate and the shooting, it may not be worth risking a divisive or controversial pick. You don't want to kill momentum with an easily attacked target that can dominate the news cycle. And judging by the comments about changing his speech, Trump is aiming to get independents instead of shoring up his base.

So Flynn isn't necessary for the base yet is controversial. DeSantis could work, but assuming Trump keeps FL like he did in 2020, DeSantis doesn't offer good outreach. Vance is the closest thing to a blue collar, midwest/swing state candidate with nothing really controversial about him (though the media will try their hardest).

I think it's a good pick, let the media flail for a few days trying to spin up dirt about him, then Trump comes on stage with a bandaged ear and gets the spotlight back. He can stomp over Harris in a debate (low bar, I know) and spend his time campaigning in the states Trump needs to get back.
At worst, he is a seat warmer designed to make independents less worried about his age.

You can switch political parties in your lifetime that's not an issue but I think it's fair to at least be skeptical of someone who has changed their political affiliation in the last 10 years and also publicly insulted the party or the politicians of the party they are switching to.
I am just not willing to hold his 2016 comments against him. Hell -I- said worse about Trump in 2016. And I am now fully on board the Trump train to the goddamned end. There was just too many reasons to be at best skeptical of Trump back then for me to hold anything short of outright condemnation against them.
