The cop was right to save himself. Sniper on the roof? Fuck that. It's his job to investigate what happened after it's over, not stop a crime in progress. His fantasy football draft is in a couple weeks. Can you imagine how bummed he and his friends would be if it was postponed or canceled?
This is exactly why people hate cops these days. The least he could have done was put a couple shots in the dirt to get everyone's eyes on the shooter's position. It might have worked better than the crowd of people screaming "he's got a gun" for 2+ minutes.

VP is a largely bullshit position except for one component: It's an excellent platform to be elected president in the future. That and a tie-breaker power that isn't often exercised.
15 of our presidents were formerly VPs. Eight took office on the death of their predecessors. Of those eight, four were elected to a second term.
If you're looking for a young successor to lead the party for the next decade and a half, VP is a hell of a position to hold.

I'm sympathetic to the perrenialist view of spirituality. There is one holy mountain, one divine truth, one form of mystical experience common across all religions and cultures, and different faiths interface with this in ways that are appropriate to their social and cultural context. They all view the same peak from different perspectives.
I'm not a relativist, they are not all the same and some are worse than others. The spiritual is above politics, but religion is not. However, a Muslim in his homeland is no enemy of mine, and a Christian in his homeland is no enemy of theirs. I recognize the universalist character of Christianity is not all that different from the impulse of the neoliberal project to dissolve all of humanity into one ethnically and linguistically ambiguous brown blob to better integrate world markets.
There is literally no reason for a Japanese person to be Christian, for example, they should be Shinto. And the sort of syncretic "Christianity" that thrives in these exotic places is so unorthodox it may as well be a separate religion anyway.
