Fuddbusters also touched on this drama on with their latest TWIG episodePSR responds to Lucas.
From 56:20 onwardNot a livestream but there's a lengthy segment in the Fuddbusters TWIG podcast with special guest @Othais (Who is still trying to get Karl to talk to Matt because they're both trash and used their fame as an unsuccessful soapbox)
Aren't pretty much all his videos sponsored by a firearm store or similar? So his entire channel is just supposed to be removed? Lunacy.Anything posted before June 18th with those type of sponsors can result in the video being removed.
People have known for a long time that YouTube could completely remove any and all gun content. Hickok45, Garand Thumb, Forgotten Weapons, and the rest (here on Gilligan's Isle) could have their channels terminated on a whim and there's nothing any of them could do about it.
That's pretty much the end for sponsored guntube, then. Many channels run the risk of having most of their videos removed. Can't be sponsored by Brownells, Primary Arms, ammo companies, TNVC, etc. If they can't be sponsored by anyone selling firearms accessories, this cuts out any sponsor who isn't a mobile game, VPN, debt management company, or diploma mill specializing in gunsmithing. Even Olight shills could be fucked, because Olight sells weapon lights, which are technically "firearms accessories." It will be interesting to see how YT applies this new rule.John sums it up as due to a change in YT policy on June 18th, they can no longer upload videos that have a sponsor that is a firearm company or deals in firearm accessories because they are in violation of YT policy. He says that anything posted beyond June 18th in violation can result in your channel being terminated. Anything posted before June 18th with those type of sponsors can result in the video being removed.
Looks like not a lot of guntubers were warned ahead of time, and the ones that were realized there was nothing they could do about it.Why weren't guntubers freaking out about this new rule? Was this rule even announced as part of the new set of rule changes announced back before June 18th? I don't recall anyone mentioning this.
Other than Paul, Hop and Brassfacts, I mostly subscribe to lesser known guys. Probably my favorite one right now is a guy who goes by Uncle Freedom. I like that he doesn't just talk about guns, and discusses topics like medical / first aid, mindset, general preparedness stuff, etc. Some people get pissy when I recommend his channel because he's a cop, though.I won't even miss Hickock45. That Boomer Fudd outlived his usefulness years ago.
Paul Harrell and Brandon Herrera are the only two Guntubers I actually subscribe to although I've been getting into C&Rsenal videos recently. I got bored with Ian a while back and unsubbed.
If they've banned videos sponsored by firearm products and accessories ballistol advertises as being for guns. If I was running the ship looking for reasons to remove channels that would be one.Playeur/Utreon is the best raft we have, but of course it has severe limits.
YT is being smart. If they ban the content too hard then there will be a mass migration. Not enough to hurt Google but possibly enough (especially with all the gun industry advertising) to float an alt platform. If they just slowly starve the funding then Guntube will shrink on its own.
Thankfully we have chosen to focus on fundraising directly. Our only sponsor is a lubricant. Even before this YT change I have had to turn down sponsors bc I saw this coming. I sincerely hate that it is happening but it is predictable. So our stability/expansion plans have been geared towards providing the best service to our patrons.
It's got good content sometimes with extra spicy bits. I don't really like the interface but they seem to be improving it every few weeks. Also at 8 bucks a month it's not bad value if you like the content.I've seen pepperbox mentioned a few times by a couple channels and it seems to have half dozen gun channels with their backlog on it. Have you heard anything about it?
Hickok45 says they spoke with their Google rep today. John sums it up as due to a change in YT policy on June 18th, they can no longer upload videos that have a sponsor that is a firearm company or deals in firearm accessories because they are in violation of YT policy. He says that anything posted beyond June 18th in violation can result in your channel being terminated. Anything posted before June 18th with those type of sponsors can result in the video being removed.
Can you download shit off pepperbox? Either directly or via extension on your browser? That would be a deal breaker for me.....It's got good content sometimes with extra spicy bits. Give me rainbows, but maybe it isn't as bad as Hickock was told? Youtube sat down a dozen or so major gun youtubers to go over the rules, and I can't imagine they'd purposely ignore this major one but then go through and explain all the lesser ones. It is not outside the realm of possibility for a Youtube rep to say one thing, but then another says something different. Plus I think this would be the first time Youtube would go after sponsors on videos, usually they are pretty hands off when it comes to sponsors. Why weren't guntubers freaking out about this new rule? Was this rule even announced as part of the new set of rule changes announced back before June 18th? I don't recall anyone mentioning this.
