Hickok45 says they spoke with their Google rep today. John sums it up as due to a change in YT policy on June 18th, they can no longer upload videos that have a sponsor that is a firearm company or deals in firearm accessories because they are in violation of YT policy. He says that anything posted beyond June 18th in violation can result in your channel being terminated. Anything posted before June 18th with those type of sponsors can result in the video being removed.

People have known for a long time that YouTube could completely remove any and all gun content. Hickok45, Garand Thumb, Forgotten Weapons, and the rest (here on Gilligan's Isle) could have their channels terminated on a whim and there's nothing any of them could do about it.

Garand Thumb is fond of saying "we'd like to thank our sponsors, they keep this content free for you guys." I suffer the strong suspicion that he and the rest of gun tube are about to discover the fact that very few people are willing to pay to watch some guy yammer about guns and play around on a range; especially with inflation taking off like a Saturn V and dragging the cost of living along with it.

Greg Kinman (Hickcock45), Mike Jones (Peoples Temple), Ian McCollum (Forgotten Weapons) will be just fine. Kinman will have to pick up a few shifts at Sylvan Learning. His son, Survellience Camera Man, will probably have to sign with a basketball team in China. Mike Jones will return to the Chair Force and larp as a gunfighter while spending most of his time wandering around the post exchange avoiding his dependapotamus. You can find Ian at your local watering hole. He'll be the guy behind the bar playing Injustice Mobile while thristy patrons attempt locate his manager.

Small channels like Micah Mayfield, Canned Turkey Ball Sticks, and TWANGnBANG won't fare so good. Micah will probably end up in the Portland Antifa running for the office of Child Support Commisar. Scott will have to go back distilling anabolic steriods in a wooded glenn. Who the hell knows what TWANGnBANG has been up to these last 4 years; hope yer doing well you corset wearing turbo queer.

What the hell was I even talking about? The fuck you mean you don't know! The hell you been doin' over there these few hours? Yard work my ass! The yard looks like shit!

That's pretty much the end for sponsored guntube, then. Many channels run the risk of having most of their videos removed. Can't be sponsored by Brownells, Primary Arms, ammo companies, TNVC, etc. If they can't be sponsored by anyone selling firearms accessories, this cuts out any sponsor who isn't a mobile game, VPN, debt management company, or diploma mill specializing in gunsmithing. Even Olight shills could be fucked, because Olight sells weapon lights, which are technically "firearms accessories." It will be interesting to see how YT applies this new rule.

Why weren't guntubers freaking out about this new rule? Was this rule even announced as part of the new set of rule changes announced back before June 18th? I don't recall anyone mentioning this.

Micah's a commie/antifa type? When did that happen?

(also, guess that means I need to start backing up/saving my favorite guntube videos)

Also, Admin posted his "review" of old TV centric gun shows from the 00s/10s and it's pretty blah. Super short surface level coverage/review and he fully and completely cucks on talking about the Sons of Guns, bleeping all references to rape/child sex abuse when talking about how it came out that the star of the show was sexually abusing his daughters. He also promises a sequel in a little bit that will be exclusively dedicated to Deadliest Warriors.

Also, he just posted an instagram video whining again about his lack of press coverage and how the media/SJW hate mob always ignores him in favor of crapping on other guntubers. At this point, he should be careful what he's wishing for as I'm sure others can tell him that it's one thing for SJW types to post mean things about him on X or Reddit. But quite another for the media to go after you, as far as siccing hellfire and damnation upon you and your family/friends.

Looks like not a lot of guntubers were warned ahead of time, and the ones that were realized there was nothing they could do about it.

I guess it makes Ian's insistence in his History of Weapons and War project, beyond the usual half-hearted efforts he's done with Floatplane and Utreon, a lot more understandable.

Playeur/Utreon is the best raft we have, but of course it has severe limits.

YT is being smart. If they ban the content too hard then there will be a mass migration. Not enough to hurt Google but possibly enough (especially with all the gun industry advertising) to float an alt platform. If they just slowly starve the funding then Guntube will shrink on its own.

Thankfully we have chosen to focus on fundraising directly. Our only sponsor is a lubricant. Even before this YT change I have had to turn down sponsors bc I saw this coming. I sincerely hate that it is happening but it is predictable. So our stability/expansion plans have been geared towards providing the best service to our patrons.

I won't even miss Hickock45. That Boomer Fudd outlived his usefulness years ago.

Paul Harrell and Brandon Herrera are the only two Guntubers I actually subscribe to although I've been getting into C&Rsenal videos recently. I got bored with Ian a while back and unsubbed.
Other than Paul, Hop and Brassfacts, I mostly subscribe to lesser known guys. Probably my favorite one right now is a guy who goes by Uncle Freedom. I like that he doesn't just talk about guns, and discusses topics like medical / first aid, mindset, general preparedness stuff, etc. Some people get pissy when I recommend his channel because he's a cop, though.

If they've banned videos sponsored by firearm products and accessories ballistol advertises as being for guns. If I was running the ship looking for reasons to remove channels that would be one.

I've seen pepperbox mentioned a few times by a couple channels and it seems to have half dozen gun channels with their backlog on it. Have you heard anything about it?

It's got good content sometimes with extra spicy bits. I don't really like the interface but they seem to be improving it every few weeks. Also at 8 bucks a month it's not bad value if you like the content.

And that kills Hickok 45. Shit. I always liked him.

Can you download shit off pepperbox? Either directly or via extension on your browser? That would be a deal breaker for me.....

Hickok has repeatedly refused to move off of YouTube over the years and has put out numerous videos stating that they stay on YouTube because it's where the audience is, even when Ian and other guntubers fired up contingency plans like going to Utreon and Odyssey during the adpocalypse. I'm sorry that this is happening but as one of the larger long running gun channels on YouTube he really would have seen this coming as the writing's been on the wall for years.

Give me rainbows, but maybe it isn't as bad as Hickock was told? Youtube sat down a dozen or so major gun youtubers to go over the rules, and I can't imagine they'd purposely ignore this major one but then go through and explain all the lesser ones. It is not outside the realm of possibility for a Youtube rep to say one thing, but then another says something different. Plus I think this would be the first time Youtube would go after sponsors on videos, usually they are pretty hands off when it comes to sponsors.
