My honest personal theory is that they couldn't be friends (at least publicly) as long as he remained married to Melina, for obvious personal reasons (even Destiny himself has said so, that Melina wouldn't let him speak with Lauren). And becoming friends with him immediately after they got divorced might have triggered Melina too, so she decided to wait around 6 months and they've started interacting slowly. This whole drama might just be an excuse to reconnect.

Melina pretty much has all the information to ruin her life, so it makes sense for Lauren to play it safe.
