To be fair, the majority of this person's other works were the basis for Cat Soup, one of the biggest, and most depressing mindfucks in anime history, so I'm going to guess she wasn't mentally sound before she went to India.

when america was pumping out the top 1% cognitive elites from 1980-2000 this was the dominant frame for indian immigration. freakishly hard working or smart people coming to the US that were mostly inoffensive and tried to fit in. i remember seeing indians from that era volunteering at food pantries and political campaigns. it really was the era where the rest of the world were just temporarily embarrassed americans.

the issue with the brain drain shit is that you're balancing the books with someone else's people and eventually you pump the well dry. now you're gradually reaching into the indian poo class who aren't just temporarily embarrassed americans but rape and run types here to make their fat stacks and then bail out.

Those migrants predate what I term the era of the migration treaties.

India in the 21st century goes out of it's way to get countries to sign awful one-sided migration treaties and the Indian government itself actively supports emigration. India is an overpopulated hellscape, so they literally export the worst of their society. They round up the homeless, unemployed, drug addicts, criminals, rapists, nutcases from the asylums and other such undesirables and ship them in the millions to Canada, Russia, America, Europe, everywhere that will take them really.

The recent arrivals act like scum because that is exactly what they are. Gone are the halcyon days of the Apu-stereotypes, now you see the real deal.

Shame they didn't go the Chinese route of arresting population growth.
