I barely see or hear of him but in all honesty ultrakill shouldve been long finished by now
I don't know much about Hakita's proclivities beyond him espousing that 'everyone who works on Ultrakill is gay' or something to that effect in one of the developer commentary videos. Guess the kind of other voices in that commentary track. I'm not sure why he feels the need to sing the virtues of fagdevelopment or preach about being a fag but considering Ultrakill's fanbase I suppose he's playing to the crowd.

Ultrakill having that update or 'official' mod for wireless buttplug support really nosedived my perception of the game's community. I hadn't interacted with them before that and didn't plan to interact with them anyway but word of mouth and memes kept inserting gay shit into anything for the game about a robot woodchipping his way through the armies of hell and pissing off an angel in the process.

I would much prefer Ultrakill be finished but last I saw they're doing a round of cleanup and rewrites to bring the game's original levels and enemies up to the standards of the new levels. It makes sense for a more polished product before its full release. I still want to see its conclusion though.

Back to Jason: I wonder what the purpose of Offbrand is beyond being a popular youtuber and twitch streamer showcase. I assume it's used as a more legitimate front than a single party or group of parties with streamer cash going in on something. It joins the likes of Videogamedunkey's Bigmode and random assorted streamers OTK for questionable business ventures from entertainment personalities.

With a company primarily composed of ego-headed streamers and youtubers how long will it be before some kind of internal clusterfuck disrupts whatever projects they have? Publishing Rivals of Aether 2 is the only Offbrand project I'm aware of due to this thread. What else are they doing?

Since it's relevant here's Offbrand's website (Archive, check its history for changes) and an archived tweet from them about forming a worker's co-op linked on the main page. For those likely to snoop LinkedIn for info Offbrand has their LinkedIn linked on their main page. Most of this info is already in the OP.

While I doubt that Jason being a retard is unlikely to get him booted from the company since streamers will protect their own, I do wonder why they bothered to hire him in the first place if not to consolidate the PR of his 'achievements' and his youtube and twitch viewership for free marketing on their projects. I suppose a company founded and run by streamers doesn't need a big marketing arm since said streamers already have reach directly into the markets they want to target.

Very schizo, but here goes: seeing how Mald's content seems to be focused on "go make your shitty game, retard", he essentially "grooms" his audience into being game "developers". Of course, the vast majority of them will fail, but those that won't would instantly think something along the lines of "hey, this Thor guy inspired me to make my Pong clone, I should ask him how to sell it", and here's Mald with his publishing company, helping you promote and publish your vaporware (for a generous percentage, of course). Connections to big streamers is a bonus, because it'd be harder to take Mald down in case he does something extra retarded.

Everything Jason does, is because he is insecure.
He calls himself Thor because he doesn't feel confident in the name Jason. It doesn't project manliness.
He deepens his voice because he isn't the booming figure he wants to be.
He asserts his 20 years experience because he feels he hasn't accomplished anything and needs to make it seem like he has done something big or important. He WANTS so desperately to be big and important.
Now that he's finally getting a taste of what he wanted, he is overreacting and actively working towards losing it by blowing up at Ross.
It seems he's trying too hard to be like his dad, to the point of faking his voice and work experience. Is he doing this BS for some financial gain or just to LARP as a successful dev?

I really appreciate this thread. I enjoy reading about game dev spergs and seeing knowledgeable people tear them apart. Kiwi game devs rise up.

I want to beat this nigger's dysgenic octagon head in for using nested branches and multidimensional arrays so much. That shit is the epitome of "look at me I'm a smart programmer". That shit is hard to reason about and I am foaming at the mouth just thinking about working that way. I want to inflict pain on this ferret-fucking freak. I'm not really a sadist, so I'll just seed one of his shitty games.

Too bad I'll never get to pirate Heartbound. It's never, EVER going to be finished. Jason's the type to be cognizant of that and laugh about it in private, I think. He is a grifter through and through. Too bad that's what his faggot neckbeard dad passed down instead of the actual programming skills. I don't think anyone has shared the clip of him talking about his dad being the neckbeard from the WoW episode of South Park. This faggot is the failson of the South Park WoW neckbeard. That's low.
WTF!? Heartbound isn't even out yet? I thought it was released last year or something. Holy shit. He's winning the competition of longest grift, he's already beaten Omori with a whopping 7 years over 6. The question is now: will yandaredev ever release Yandare Sim? If so, that gives Thor the opportunity to be the king of grifts if he keeps dragging it along.

Nah, this dude has nothing on Star Citizen, coming on 12 years... And frankly insane amount of money... This is pure amateur hour...

Bigger than YanDev, but still smaller than Chris Roberts in the scamming.
I do wonder why they bothered to hire him in the first place if not to consolidate the PR of his 'achievements
My guess? Bait to lure in young naïve devs looking for a publisher who may have an actual decent game.
Whether that works or not? I dunno. An actual dev may look at this guy's code and projects and go "he's full of shit."
That seems to be this thread's consensus.
The only other thing I can think is the numbers of his audience. Knowing they'll blindly buy anything he pushes.

I think some people are thinking too grand of his goals like conning aspiring devs into joining or being sponsored by him

He seems to do great with Shorts views and his long streams in addition to his connections, he can more easily get a gravy train off that than an elaborate publishing fish scheme

Back in the day dudes would just chain-smoke to harden their voice if they hated the way it sounded, every smoker sounds the same so there's reassurance for the perpetually brittle insecure moid in that. THE SYSTEM killed the tobacco industry though :(

Fuck me, I didn't expect yandev tier programming. :story: I set a mental filter on this faggot and awaited the kiwifarms thread when I noticed him getting pushed by Youtube, and haven't paid too much attention since.

The observations about his coding practices as well as this post here crack his deal wide open:

I believe he sounds competent only when either:
  • you're not paying attention
  • he's not talking about a domain you're familiar with

So I saw another short pop up - Jason was one of the Tankies who Co-Opted the NUKING of Helldivers 2 and taught thousands of people to demand a refund for over a hundred thousand dollars worth of chargebacks and a "Loophole" for after the Steam 3 Hour Standard under a false anti-trust claim.

That would mean Jason is complicit with corporate sabotage of a company that made a game that he "Played over 500 hours of" over a fumble of Sony Playstation account integration? Isn't that a bit hypocritical after he failed to deliver updates on his own property for 3 years after contracting "Long Covid" (which he told everyone to get vaxxed by the way then contradicted his times of getting sick, posted he only had a cold, then pneumonia, then bronchitis, then 3 instances of negative COVID, then Long Covid without verification) - and forced everyone to wait a whole 7 years after the declared launch day to only deliver 1/2 or 1/3rd of a game?

The more I look into this, outside of my own experience, the more I feel like I'm being gaslit and actively losing my fucking mind. The cognitive dissonance is is so whip-lashy I honestly think this goes beyond narcissist and into full blown psychopathy. None of his "Social Circle" are people from more than 5 years ago beyond his transboy wife and a few furfags so it seems like he's surrounding himself with "Like minded people (degenerates)".

Edit: Looks like Muta is a Kiwifarmer.

In my opinion this kind of dual-action tom fuckery actually dilutes his whole messaging about anyone can and should make games
Disagree - mental people like him should make games because it's hilarious, but be barred from kickststarter to save the rest of us money.

- His public persona is not "Jason Hall", it's "Thor, the PirateSoftware guy"
To be fair, there's someone more famous in programming named Jason Hall as well as an actor.

So this fucking mental case knows of JSON and will parse JSON in fucking python, but then ignore it completely in his own fucking game. I just can't even.
While my grasp on programming is worse than his, I do know a bit of lolcow psychology. It seems like he created a small project and thought he was going to keep it small or as a thing in his off time, then the money came in. I'm guessing he didn't bother to change it out of a combination of laziness and comfortablity. He might have even been told by his peers that his JSON skills sucked and was reluctant to deal with it due to a sore spot with that. He ended up going full retard because he experienced feature creep and general idea bloat, and it fucked him over because he thought he could have Undertale's audience licking his feet and creamed his pants over all the attention and acclaim. Then the project got too big and as everyone said his pride (and likely sunk cost fallacy) keeps him from redoing things, as well as his multiple other avenues of income and (importantly) asspats.

twitter was a mistake and i dont understand how people like these dont go "okay this is a bit too much, maybe they do have a point" and just turn everything off, go touch grass for a while and just stop posting on the internet, i think it would make things so much easier but im just dense and i dont really get it but if people kept making fun of me i would be embarassed to death and i would post a "sorry my bad i messed up" and move on with my life

i dont get this whole "nah lets set everything on fire" strategy at all, its something i could never figure out about people like these but i guess a lot of them dont have a real sense of shame

Their dopamine hits come from people liking and commenting on their things. They cultivate an online persona cooler than the lower social tier person they are IRL. When faced with losing that, instead of being humble and saying sorry or going offline for a while, they panic and begin attacking to protect their dopamine of "large number go up = people like me = I'm worth it" type of thing. They're fighting for their sense of self and their validation, and they get it from the internet best instead of from accomplishing things or friends and family that matter. This can be due to how they were raised, by learning it, by birth, or a combination thereof, but however it comes about, they fear their fragile ego being hurt more and don't know how to correct it without leaving the only thing that gives them the dopamine validation they crave, so they just keep at it. Some break the cycle by choice or by force from outside circumstances, but it is basically an addiction.

Also, please use punctuation. :squirtle:

Hey if you have a bunch of money from other sources of income maybe just maybe higher people finish the game and just say this is my staff the project and scope got too big for one person and my small team so I hired some more people I'm gonna be more on the forward facing end of the company now.
But that would probably be a hurt to little Jason's ego
