MauLer is a fag who takes every movie to be some high art project and when it doesn't live up to his standard even a little, he calls it a piece of shit, granted, his standards fluxuate depending on whether he feels a connection to the subject or not. They approached Tom Hanks and Michael Keaton but decided they wanted a more unknown. It was the makers who approached Weller and asked him to do the film. SFDebris goes over it in his background video.

Weller is a good actor and all things considered this would have been a challenging role for anyone. The character really needed something to latch onto and focus the movie. There was some interview he did where he said the producers/director really buttered him up telling him has was basically born to play it. You never get the best results when you're never challenged. If characters don't have a solid core of motivation other than looking cool, they just float in space. The world would have eaten it right up if we had a hero with something akin to Emmett Brown's knowledge coupled with Marty McFly's enthusiasm with real stakes involved.

No, Wes and Aaron just disagreed with his retarded Batman take. Aaron is of the opinion that Bruce Timm was the weakest link in the creative team of BtAS, and that Paul Dini and Dwayne McDuffie were more responsible for the DCAU of that time. Aaron even cites some of Timm's post BtAS work to back up that statement, though I haven't seen enough of his stuff to judge. Aaron also alleges that Female Penguin being in a cabaret is appealing to Timm's fetishes, and says that Timm was always pushing for Batman to hook up with Batgirl which most fans found weird as fuck.

Wes is mostly just saying that when the show launched, their rationale for swapping Penguin's sex was that Batman didn't have enough memorable rogues, which is so unbelievably retarded.

Zack wants to toss out everything about Spawn except the way he looks and turn him into a typical soldier-type character with superpowers. Early Spawn (I haven't kept up with it) had a lot of horror elements. Spawn's look with the cape and the chains is, in my opinion, intended to lean into a gothic horror theme. Hence the whole deal with the devil, Hell-spawn element. But yeah, let's just turn him into generic soldier man (Zack) who got powers from aliens and toss out everything from all his most popular comic, cartoon and movie appearances. Great idea.

I can't imagine this is a pitch to Todd McFarlane since I imagine he'd be disgusted if he ever happened to watch this video, but Zack might be that delusional.
