A year ago, I noticed my vision was getting blurry, so I decided to get glasses, thinking my eyesight was failing. I assumed it was just something I had to live with. However, I recently went on a trip where I was away from screens for about a week, and something unexpected happened.
At first, I thought my vision was getting worse, but then I realized the opposite was true. I took off my glasses and was surprised to see everything much clearer than before.
This led me to do some research, and I discovered that I had likely overstressed my eyes. This got me thinking about how common this might be. When I mentioned it to some friends, one of them, who had previously claimed to be dyslexic, shared a similar experience. However, in his case, it wasn’t overstress but rather a lack of visual exercise that seemed to be the issue.
It made me realize that our eyes are like muscles. If you spend hours staring at a screen without really focusing on anything, your eyes might weaken. I even started to wonder if some people who think they have dyslexia might actually just be experiencing attention deficits or lack of visual exercise from too much screen time. The wide-space fonts that help some people might be working because they’re not dealing with true dyslexia, but rather with weakened eyesight—kind of like how you can only see certain letters on an eye chart.
IDK, maybe it's bullshit and I'm just a schizo.
