@repentance as far as how the law works thats how it's done in civil law countries, which is most of them. One criminal code, one civil code, etc. common law is an old medieval law before centralised government existed. Civil law has no precedents or case law, just the code as it is written or as close as possible. It's honestly superior, especially because those places have lower wages for lawyers and way fewer of them, which I think everyone believes is a good thing.

I'm not so sure that she's convinced Nick is an incredible husband and father. I do think she thinks this is her lot in life and doesn't aspire to anything better, though.

It's hard to imagine that her own family haven't encouraged her to leave him at some point over the last few years. I found the way he talks about her horrifying as a viewer and can't imagine hearing that as a parent, although there's a good chance he's always talked about her like that, just less publicly.

Do you think so? I think if he takes a plea, he would just keep up the same facade of insinuating there's some deep seated corruption, the state forced him to take a plea, but never outright saying it because of potential legal ramifications (I could be wrong on this, NAL). Getting arrested didn't give him pause, and even now he still brazenly lies about stuff he *knows* we'll get access to in just a matter of time (court transcripts, etc.).
