Big news in my shithole, Musk decided that instead of allowing X's employees be under the thread of arrest instead of doxing and complying with ilegal orders, to shut down X in Brazil, in response Brazil seized Musk's starlink assets and bank accounts.
This would be like if @Null didn't comply with a takedown order and they decided to make him comply with fines to seize assets of a company he's a shareholder in, like Musk is with SpaceX/Starlink

Brazil is not some random shithole, this is the 2nd largest country in America, this is also not a coincidence that this all unfolded on the same week Paris's decided to seize Pavel Durov under bullshit charges.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has frozen bank accounts held by Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet venture under SpaceX.

The move aims to ensure the payment of fines levied against X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, also owned by Mr. Musk.
The ruling is part of a sealed investigation and was reportedly issued on August 18. It was first reported today by news website G1 and confirmed by Mr. Musk himself on X, with a curt “Correct.”

Justice Moraes issued a subpoena to Mr. Musk on Wednesday, demanding that he promptly appoint a legal representative for X in Brazil. If Mr. Musk fails to comply by the end of the day today, X could face a ban in the country.

The justice told the Supreme Court clerk system to deliver the subpoena electronically, which they did through a post on X, tagging Mr. Musk and the company’s Global Affairs team. The court said its unusual method stemmed from the X’s lack of a formal representative in Brazil.
However, some legal experts argue that subpoenas cannot be served via social media, and any ban on X would be unlawful without a formal subpoena. Brazil’s Superior Court of Justice weighed in on this issue in 2023, noting that while using messaging apps or social media to serve legal notices may be valid if they achieve their purpose, they lack a solid legal foundation.

However, the decision said the final word would be up to the Supreme Court.
X on August 17 announced its sudden closure of operations in Brazil, accusing Justice Moraes of legal harassment following orders to suspend accounts spreading disinformation.
The following day, Justice Moraes subpoenaed X’s lawyer, the court said in a statement, ordering the company to turn in the required documents. As such, Wednesday’s notice directly to Mr. Musk was a final, public warning.
Yet, in an indication that X still maintains some legal presence in Brazil, the São Paulo law firm Pinheiro Neto Advogados represented the company in an August 25 petition to reverse a temporary suspension of accounts linked to Pablo Marçal, a wildcard candidate in São Paulo’s mayoral race,
Neither Starlink nor the law firm responded to requests for comment.
As The Brazilian Report detailed, the feud between Justice Moraes and Mr. Musk has been intensifying. The billionaire has repeatedly accused Justice Moraes of censorship for his efforts to combat disinformation, and in April, the justice placed Mr. Musk under investigation for obstruction of justice, incitation of criminal activity, and the “willful criminal instrumentalization” of X.

Starlink, a division of SpaceX, dominates satellite broadband in Brazil with nearly 46 percent market share, though satellite internet accounts for less than 1 percent of the country’s connectivity.
The company came under scrutiny in Brazil in 2023 when an Associated Press report revealed that Starlink antennas were being used by illegal miners in the Amazon. The story was especially relevant given former President Jair Bolsonaro’s extensive support of wildcat miners and his efforts to legalize mining in indigenous lands.
In an April operation led by the Armed Forces, Brazilian authorities seized 24 Starlink antennas from wildcat miners in the Yanomami indigenous land.
In May 2022, during a brief visit to Brazil, Mr. Musk was awarded a Defense Order of Merit medal from Mr. Bolsonaro, then the president.
The Brazilian Report has shown how Mr. Musk has joined a campaign led by the far-right to paint Brazil as a dictatorship, aiming to discredit ongoing investigations into an attempted coup orchestrated by Mr. Bolsonaro.

Most of the accounts banned by Brazilian courts were tied to campaigns to undermine the country’s voting system — a tactic that fueled a bomb plot at Brasília airport and inspired hordes of Bolsonaro supporters to storm government buildings in early 2023 in a bid to incite a military coup.
Ironically, Mr. Musk’s outcry over “censorship” in Brazil stands in contrast to his compliance with content removal orders in countries such as India and Turkey — where no such public objections were raised.
