I feel like people need to realize that previous generations aren't "dumb" for lacking knowledge of the current culture. They set themselves up by trying to use these words and phrases that only certain people get. If I was at a bar with 21 year olds, I could get away with that. I can't do the same in a nursing home or anybody whose well into their middle age onward years.

But again that's me realizing and understanding that generational gaps in culture exist. Most of my generation doesn't understand that. Frankly it scares me.

I don't even think it's a generational thing, as much as it is a mindset thing; and for some people, knowing how to preach to your choir. I generally don't like pop-culture references and shit in normal conversation; mainly because we didn't have cable TV and videogames or books were my main source of entertainment, and since videogames were for nerds and losers, I didn't spend a lot of time finding way to incorporate it into my communication methods. It got bad as a young adult trying to date, where girls who talk in TV relationship parables and I have no fucking clue what they're saying, and when it came to trying to find commonality, videogames were dumb and fake, but don't you dare tell her that trash TV she watches is fake. But now, it's fucking everywhere, people talk in a wide amount of pop-culture and it's not that I don't get what they're trying to say, as much as it is I want to fucking scream at them to use their own internal monologue to make a coherent fucking sentence that is devoid of whatever the fuck it is you want. Throw in the jive from rap and other parts of the entertainment industry and I swear hardly anyone can have a legitimate conversation with plain vanilla English.

You want to say that we had no say in where we were born, when we were born, or who our parents would be, it's that fucking simple. Because otherwise I'm gonna have to assume some people randomly took the "birth defect" trait, and I don't believe that. The world is chaos, we have no control, we're doing our best to search for stability; fuck your videogame character creation parable, fag.
