I had to take some social studies classes back in the day, and even in lower grade school I knew they were screwing with the meaning of words. Then I saw the John Hurt version of 1984, then the book, and then enlightened to yeah, that's how the left actually does things. That's why they always use 'far right' and so on. It used to be that we weren't afraid to expose kids to death as long as it was shown to be part of the natural cycle of things. Hell, I used to love Charlotte's web when I was 8. A lot of depended on how parents broached the subject of death with their kids. When I was five, someone my parents knew had their young kid die from some sort of childhood cancer and circumstances required me to be taken to the visitation. I don't remember the experience any more, but my parents apparently had an age-appropriate talk with me about death and the death of someone my age, and I made it through the visitation unscathed.

The biggest difference now is that kids aren't leaning any sort of life management/coping skills. Some of the bigger reasons I see are:

• Breakdown of the family structure (fewer two-parent families).
• Many parents are so busy with working out of necessity that they have less time to teach kids vital skills.
• Parents who grew up in less than ideal situations lack the skills themselves, so they have nothing to pass on to their kids.
• Parents who would rather be their kids' buddies and not be parents who set guidelines and teach them how to behave and deal with various situations the right way.

It was both malicious intent and a competency issue that was exploited with said malicious intent.

Shortly after this happened, someone I know and I discussed the possibility. IF I recall, this happened shortly after I read on here how some Congress Person proposed Trump be stripped of his secret service protection. I would not be surprised if those in charge of his detail made the active choice to comprise his secret service contingency of the lowest-rated Z-minus tier individuals with the reasoning that Trump deserves the absolute bare minimum of secret service staffing in terms of quality and competency.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but this can't be totally ruled out either given how much those currently in charge loathe Trump enough to wish he was out of the picture and the race for president.

Edit to add: Somehow my quote RE schools got eaten, but I was going to reiterate the point that high school districts are pushing STEM so much now that they see no reason to keep or bring back home ec, shop classes, or vocational classes such as auto maintenance. Some areas are lucky enough to have a multi-school or county-level educational entity offer these sort of vocational classes so long as they have enough interest. Otherwise, there are few options for those who don't want to pursue STEM for whatever reason and prefer something more vocational/practical out of high school.
