Silent Hill

SH 3 - Heather will be in black jeans instead of a miniskirt.
This would be so ironic considering she originally wore jeans, but it got changed to a skirt because the women from Team Silent suggested she would look more feminine and pretty if she showed her legs :story:
(6:10 if the timestamp doesn't load)

At least it's not the modern half naked himbo Pyramid Head.
It is though. His behavior is just the movie PH, so fucking retarded. His helmet no longer warps and shifts either it seems so yeah it really is closer to movie Pyramid Head than the original, its cleaner; has less mystery and intrigue, and acts as a generic movie monster now with zero subtlety. When he grabs James the tentacle no longer comes out. When he kills Maria his helmet no longer slides open or warps, every time Maria was killed by him his helmet opened apparently to show James that his Silent Hill is not real. His helmet is static and lame now.
Proof it isn't some "glitch" that redditfags thought it was:

SH3 does read on the script level like it could be modern woketrash. It is in the end a story about a young woman who has been impregnated against her will and needs to find a way to abort the pregnancy before its too late while opposed by an evil religious institution thats desperate to keep her distracted long enough to let the birth happen. You could understand why the male devs might have wanted for her to wear masculine lower wear like jeans, to emphasize that feminine instincts like child-bearing are not something Heather wants to convey with her dress sense.

Those two girls: "Nuh uh make her prettier"

Based.

I had an older friend who was a dyke back when I was a teenager and first played SH3, and I remember her smiling approvingly as I explained the main plot. She rankled at the idea that Heather has a devoted and loving relationship with her father, because of course she did.

Perusing the terrors of (forced) teenage motherhood, an extremely iron hot topic at the time versus bland woketrash that would give Heather no flaws. Heather has flaws and quirks and thats what makes her a fan favorite protagonist, she is rightfully the most expressive character who acts like a teenager. They nailed it. The script reads like a sequel to SH1 and the motherhood thing only comes up in moments. The male devs wanted to cover Heather up because they were taking it more seriously design-wise while the female devs were more playful and wanted her to be skimpy to resonate with youth I suppose. I'm glad the final design seems to be a compromise. They initially had a much darker script for 3 with remnants left in the game. They were going to reuse it for a future game. It was dark enough for the devs to say it would probably be banned in some countries.

Woke trash would never explore these topics in a meaningful way. They'd only have platitudes disguised as stories. Please direct me to where in any universe SH3 would read like a woketrash script lmao.

Guys, I'm going to be completely real here.

I was so prepared for them to fuck this up royally. I was mentally and physically prepared for one of my favorite games ever to be brought back into the limelight and molested to death by modern AAA, Konami and fucking Bloober Team of all studios.

And yet I look at all the news and gameplay still completely distraught at how just plain bad it is. I knew it was coming, and there was nothing I could do to stop it. It really hurts to watch something you love rot like this, and have everyone around the deformed corpse of this "remake" and say "LOOK IT'S GOOD ACTUALLY AND IF YOU THINK THE CHARACTER MODELS ARE UGLY YOU ARE A HECKING CHUD", let alone the raving reviews from critics.

It hurts more that these "fans" (who have only watched video essays of the game) will never understand, nor are willing to learn what makes the original so special.

I'm tired. (:_(

Ignore it. It is the best way of handling many "fan"bases that kind of deserve what happened to their series. Especially those that defend the western titles.

This will probably be my final post for the thread unless something meaningful comes up. It's been fun talking about this series with other true & honest fans of Silent Hill. You guys take care.
Bonus SH4 track: "Last Walk" ripped from the music box album I think.

This to me, is the end of Silent Hill. Hard to believe it's been 20 years and also 10 years since the two ends of the series. One was a bittersweet note of 4, the other was one many are still pissed about, P.T.

I'll give you one last major thing to be mad at the internet about since you guys have been fun. Mad At Konami. Kojimaproductions captured the spirit of the town better than the western developers. Konami's leadership have got to be the biggest lolcows in videogame history, you can't even make up how much they have fucked up. They piss all over the legacies their teams built for them. And people have the gull to tell me I'm unreasonable for hating MGS3 demake, and the botched revival of Silent Hill. They cuck their fans. How do you shitcan PT while it is still one of the more talked about PS4 gen games ever? They could have at least tried to salvage it. Instead they are reusing the ARG ideas for sh2 demake. I may not consider PT very Silent Hill but honestly its the closest we got. And it was the last chance the IP had to come back properly. I would literally play a puzzle walking simulator if it gave me a great story and lore, and mysteries all of which PT had. People say it was all Kojima's fault for the cancellation, or he was 400 IQ and knew it would be shitcanned but I disagree. People who speculate that reddit shit know nothing about game development. Geoff Keighley elevated the Konami-Kojima drama but the way Del Toro spoke about it much later tells me they may have actually been going somewhere with it and he's still pissed about it.

Just in terms of general theming. Abortion Good, Religion Bad, Female Trauma Very Important, Male Trauma Less So, Villainess Mostly Bad Because Paternal Abuse, Trust The Supercilious Accountant Who Is Manipulating You.

The factors that deviates the game from being woketrash is the contradictory messaging such as: themes about loving paternalism (Juxtaposing Harry's relationship with Heather versus Leonard's relationship with Claudia) and the villainess exploiting the heroine's emotionality to enact her agenda, only being foiled when the heroine steps back from her emotions at the crucial moment and heeds her father's guidance. Plus the general execution actually being competant and the characters being actually compelling, you know.

There's a degree of implication in the original that Douglas only took on the case because helping a child be reunited with her true parents appealed to him as the father whose son died a frivolous death in direct contradiction to Douglas's own lifestyle. Douglas's son being killed while robbing a bank, Douglas being a private detective implies that he was likely a police officer before this happened and either left the force because of the personal disgrace of having raised a criminal or a psychological breakdown. Perhaps he took Claudia up on the contract to find Heather to help a wayward child return home, as he wished he could have before he missed the chance.

See, that whole implied character beat about a FUCKING COP seeking to ameliorate the pain of losing his child? That'd have to go in a modern remake.

It would take more carving away from the project to make it boilerplate lefty soapboxing rather than adding to it, if you follow me.

Abortion isn't highlighted as a good thing in SH3 it is just a plot beat that the God was inside her just like it was in Alessa for SH1, Heather rejects it and Claudia births it instead which gives God a malformed and unfinished appearance as a result while resembling Alessa. Religion is not quite presented in a negative manner, it is simply cultists who have more depth now that there are sects like Vincent who oppose the evil shit, just because a religious cult is presented as a villain of a series doesn't mean anything since they are given a lot of depth and lore, its such a reductionist view. The town's corrupted spiritual power essentially feed the religious beliefs cultists have and make them very real. I think you're reading too far into this.

Heather puking up God and almost stomping on it was pretty justified since it is the source of the world transforming into a nightmare around her there isn't really any messaging about it. It is overall just an expansion of SH1's plot beats. I understand you might be using the logic they'd use but this is lunacy. The focus on woke shit has been pretty tiring in modern media, it would be nice to never have to talk about it again and never give it the attention they beg for, the culture wars are such a meme.

To be clear I'm not asserting that Team Silent had an agenda they were pushing; they were taking inspiration from works like Rosemary's Baby and The Astronaut's Wife and were using these tropes for narrative utility rather than wilfully intentional behavioural engineering in the player.

My point is how these once fairly apolitically intended story aspects are ripe for hijacking by sufficiently motivated woke writers.

The key to effective messaging that pushes a political point is making sure that a controversial action is entirely justified internally to the work's narrative. All the slop media that's pushed the PUNCH NAZIS messaging onto normies since 2016 (Watchmen, Hunters on Amazon, Evil on CBS, etc) set up ethical stakes where being moved to political violence is The Correct Thing To Do within the story, which does the Nudge Theory push on the normie brain to think the aberrant behaviour is good outside of the fictional context and thus makes the viewer more permissive of that behaviour.

A story wherein a young white woman aborts her baby and the Christian-resembling villain turns into a horrific monster while trying to save the fetus? AND its part of a beloved franchise that older gamers are sentimental about? Yeah that's like steak in front of a vegan's dog to these bastards.

Without falling into the /v/irgin trap of hating everything, I think I speak for most of us here when I say I wanted this to be good but nothing we've seen so far indicates that and seeing mainstream outlets falling over themselves to praise what we've seen so far makes me... skeptical. Genuinely curious how many of these reviewers played the original or not.

>access media being a shower of monumental faggots with zero standards who bow and scrape and genuflect before anything that promises them a crumb of clout

Yes they love the pretty game about toxic white male violence and female victimhood. Put a basic level of mechanical competency beneath that and they fall over themselves to give it ACKolades irrespective of any other factors.

The deathblow that did the fanbase in for me is honestly a funnier sort of truth. People HAVE played these games but WILL defend later entries. Those journalists played the original but will defend the remake anyway if it gets them in good graces with future konami entries like the mgs3 remake. It's like, ehh, consoomers. The Silent Hill Reddit talking points are that 90% of fans haven't played them but its a bunch of shite. A mere meme. It keeps them covered from being pointed out as the ones who helped get us here.

People like Nubzombie are the major issue as much as I liked some of his content. The guy is like a whale, and every popular series has these whales who will endlessly grift around and be these hyperfans of properties because they grew up with the series and formed attachments even if its like stockholm syndrome. He will buy sh2 remake anyway because he feels he HAS to as a "megafan". And some commenters rightly pointed out that he is one of the people who helped get gaming to this state.

It's a private video and I don't feel like signing but what's the tl;dw?

They removed the Pyramid Heads slowly backing away when James turns to confront them and announce that he's ready to accept the truth.

This one is private too. Copyright issues?

Also, why would Bloober remove/modify that? The Pyramid Heads momentarily showing signs of fearing James was actually a pretty badass few seconds. Yet another bad decision by the Bloobs. Also the music for this boss fight is inferior to the original so a fail on the composer's part.

They only stepped back to let him do his work because Pyramid Head is basically James and is the only entity that helped him accomplish his goal. Maria only distracted James from accomplishing his goal, its one of those obvious plot beats that aren't pointed out that can go unnoticed for years. I don't see any fear movements more like acceptance and fulfillment. Its speculated the 2nd one was formed from the guilt of just killing Eddie since one egg is scarlet, fresh and the other is rust, decayed, Mary. I expected the lack of subtlety from Blooper Team, the moment you change cutscenes even slightly, and change or add dialogue is the moment you'll get carried away instead of being faithful.

Game was also inspired by Jacob's Ladder, a fitting quote being "Eckhart saw Hell too. He said: The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you, he said. They're freeing your soul. So the way he sees it, if you're frightened of dying and... and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth. It's just a matter of how you look at it, that's all. So don't worry, okay? Okay?".

Well the game ends with Heather terminating her "pregnancy" so I'm sure the Goober Squad devs can use that as a jumping off point. Also Claudia is disheveled and severely mentally ill so she's already halfway there to get poonered in the remake.
Funny you say that since an initial design was a naked, tattooed Claudia with a bald head. Although I chalk it down to weird jap shit thats now expected. I think it could work given she is an insane cultist and still feminine.
