Not forgetting, just trying to not put too fine a point on it. I try to make my posts helpful, and invoking insecurities some people due to a past/present bias generally isn't helpful if I want to post something somewhat controversial (though I usually post it anyways). I suppose it's my attempt at being tactful since I learned a fair amount from people in this thread and I want to pay it back where I can.
What you say is largely accurate. For better or worse, there isn't a lot of integrity in these parts (let alone humanity in general). A lot of this boils down to picking sides and alliances and making decisions based on that. People rallied behind DSP for a spell, reason being that someone as low as DSP had mild criticism of Nick. Nothing of substance was learned and the impact seemed a lost on DSP initially as he tried to explain/defend his criticism until he understood where the excitement was coming from and started getting backpats from KC and others. Lots of fanfare over very little substance, and then it was gone. Such is the somewhat petty currency of the Sketur and those who invest in it.
People are fickle, and a number of them relish this as an escape from accountability. Interested parties might try to avoid this, but there really is no accounting for the rest.
I'll admit the way i reconciled it was that it was his version of watching baseball or working on the yard or any other dad activities. If you believe his bullshit about the work schedule and realize he does it "after hours" there is no reason to assume anything about his parenting.

They had a nanny that did the driving, but Nick always had to travel longer distances due to his kids. The only real evidence that he drove his kids involved the police; once when was when he was pulled over for speeding and when he was arrested after dropping off his son (after the nanny had left).
Nick's streaming schedule as he became more popular caused him to neglect Kayla. If Nick doesn't have time for someone he shared a bedroom with, he may not have spent much time with their kids either. Nick stayed up all night and slept during the day. This means that Nick is effectively doubling his time away from his family (not there while working and not there while sleeping). Kayla's example of Nick being a good husband came from a time when Nick was banned from Twitter (Kayla had a longtime issue with how much time Nick spent on his phone).
I know a woman whose mother put a guilt trip on her for years about how she ran the household, cleaned the house, and prepared the food for her and her siblings. I asked a few basic questions about the operation of the household and between the chores done by the children, help from her husband, and her recurrent afternoon naps, the mother clearly wasn't the selfless hero she made herself out to be.
This mother chose to disregard the support of her family in lieu of her ego as a heroic wife and mother (rather than simply being thankful for their support). Similarly, Nick played up the role of a father (one that he could never be) and few would bother to verify.
The heart of the issue is one's threshold/tolerance for recognizing problem behavior. For some people, the behavior needs to be extreme to register as a warning sign, hence the popular cope "it's not the worst thing in the world" which could be a way of unconsciously telegraphing that one's level of awareness is so low that it would take a global catastrophe for them to recognize a problem.
