I just had a really crazy thought but it fits in with Nicks Self Destructive ODD (spoilt brat) Nature. If April threatened to flip on Nick if he didn't keep her on/divorce his wife and marry her like he promised, then Nick openly admitting to the cocaine makes a certain amount of sense. As far as Nick is concerned he may be destroying his own case (although he still thinks that he'll win his interlocutory appeal on the Franks Motion) but he'll be taking away April's power over him.
If that's the case then April Love Bombing him right now may be the only leverage she has left.
