Sony hate thread

Over the past 3 reports, the PS5 is increasingly falling behind the PS4 and that will likely only grow once the Switch 2 releases next year.
PS5 is dead in the water. The normies have one,so there is no more market to tap into. The hardcore, traditional gamers have gone to PC. The die hard xbox fans won't abandon gamepass.
The pro is going to be disastrous
Their video game revenue is up mainly because they raised the price of PSN and DLC sales surged
The MAU of PSN is up, because they forced PSN on PC gamers. No doubt they'll be playing fucky with those numbers.
If the Switch 2 is truly around the PS4 in terms of power
Sony are fucked. Rumours are it will be PS4PRO power, but with Nvidia's dlss, the switch2 could do native 720p and upscale it. Sony pushed for PSSR, which will handcuff them for the PS6. Why buy more expensive hardware when a PS4PRO can use PSSR?

Sonypony cope is pretty funny. They've gone from "PS5 is launch aligned with PS4" to "Oh wow, it's only 200k behind ps4", not realising the market is tapped out.

Next year will be a blood bath and I wouldn't be shocked if MS stealth-drop a new console next year.

The whole past 4 years of devs continuing to release their games on the PS4 as well is a complete rejection of any argument of this gen's success. When Switch 2 gets added to the standard list of "This game releases on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PS4, and PS5", that's when shit gets dirty.

The funny thing with Xbox's near-death status is that Microsoft largely don't have to care. Sony needs playstation, it's a third of their sales and operating income. Meanwhile Xbox's failure is irrelevant to Microsoft in the long run. Sure, they dropped like 60 billion on ATVI but they'll just fire a couple thousand faggots working at these devs studios and keep going while Candy Crush and CoD churn out money to slowly make back their investment. I was thinking for a while that they might just skip out of consoles and stick to being the Netflix of games with GamePass but they honestly could just drop a new console and not give a single fuck. By all measure, Microsoft should have imploded a long time ago from all the pajeets stuffing metric tons of their own shit into every crevice of the company but they're just too big with too much inertia.

Not ashamed to say I bought a PS5 pro.
It’s cool but I know it’s a waste of money.
The main draw for me is future proofing for the rest of cycle. This is also cope.
I’m a couch/living room player so PC doesn’t appeal to me, I know I’m missing out.
If there was a high end console comparable to high end PC’s I could plug in and play I’d be set.
But I guess I’ll just keep eating shit and asking for seconds.
Thank you Sony I look forward to more.

Yours most dearly,

It's OK I bought a Switch OLED for dubious reasons.

I will dunk on everything PS5 but if you're happy that's cool too.

I'm really surprised that the CPU has wound up being a bottleneck on this silicon. AMD's "APU" parts have never been chart-topping speed demons in terms of graphics, but something's seriously wrong with this design if the GPU is starving. Usually it's the other way around, with the CPU twiddling its thumbs waiting for a lethargic on-die GPU to get around to drawing a frame.

The PS5's custom Zen 2 was a special design by AMD that likely cost Sony a lot of money to have done. It cuts out a lot of core area in favor of thermals and tighter focus on gaming workloads. I imagine getting a similar specialized design based on Zen 4 or Zen 5 would have cost more than Sony was willing to invest in the system. They seem pretty realistic about its appeal and how well it will sell so I think they mostly just stuck to the low-hanging fruit and called it a day.

A more powerful PS5 sounds nice on paper, but the PS5 Pro doesn't deliver what I want at all.
Sharper textures and better RT - which is a meme graphic option and almost as pointless as 4k. That's not enough for an upgrade. If my £700++ console isn't hitting AT LEAST 60fps in every game with an option to hit 120fps, then gtfo.

You have these more than capable machines and the priority still is make it pretty and flashy, everything else is fine as long as it works and doesn't brick the system

How is 4K pointless? It's a noticeable jump in image quality compared to 1080p, especially on a computer monitor.

I can understand prioritizing frame rate over resolution but 4K is definitely still in the territory of being resolvable by people with average visual acuity. 8K on the other hand...

Unless 4K makes the games good then yeah, it's pointless.

It's really disappointing the PS5 Pro's only "enhancement" for PS4 games is post-process upscaling, and despite being so simple, enabling it somehow makes games run worse and can even introduce graphical glitches. A post-process upscaler. How??

Xbox Series X can raise framerate caps and render resolutions in many previous generation games. Not only does it bump many 30fps games to 60, it bumps some 60fps games to 120. Why has Sony made no effort to replicate this? Why is their answer after years and an expensive hardware revision just UPSCALING???

It is a noticable jump, without a doubt, but when your £700 console has to use software jewry to make 4k possible, then it isn't worth the price or the effort.

PC should be the home of 4k as the platform has the option to go ubermegapower with CPU and GPUs.

A console should be laughed out of the market as soon as it costs more than £400. We've gone upwards in price, forwards in power, backwards in physics and always twirling, twirling, twirling down the toilet of quality.

If I had to guess, it's because Xbox games are done in DirectX. The calls to change frame limit and render resolution are known and you can directly mess with them using external DLL fuckery even if the game doesn't expose the options directly.

PS4/PS5 use Sony's own proprietary in-house graphics stack and I don't think its linkage really supports that kind of runtime modification. I could be wrong though. Maybe someone in the thread has some experience developing PS4 games with the offical devkit and can confirm/deny.

It does, but what the DF spergs noticed is a lot of devs ignore it and implement their own way of handling framelimiting. It's pretty much to an embarrassing level where framepacing issues is a running gag for PS5.
