That always strikes me as cope. I think these people are just more degenerate than they let on and only realize the true depths of their depravity by virtue of further exploration of their addiction, not necessarily because of the addiction in and of itself (which is still certainly a problem, but that's a whole other discussion).
I mean, fuck, I've recently seen a discussion held in certain circles in which it was decided that "partial nudity" or "functionally nude" is "better" than full frontal nudity due to something about the "allure" of having "some clothes on" rather than nothing at all. That's a really simplistic thing to find arousal in. I don't see these folks going full "I NEED TO SEE THE MOST EXTREME PORNOGRAPHIC DEPICTIONS POSSIBLE OF MORALLY REPREHENSIBLE ACTS" to get off. These people need individual, psychiatric evaluations rather than just writeoffs of "it's because of addiction".
Hell, even addiction itself has finer reasons and causes from individual to individual rather than just, "Well, it's because thing is addictive", especially when other people can largely functionally indulge in the same consumptions (save for certain substances) without developing an obsessive dependency.
