Most of the super autistic things he's done happened 30+ years ago like the "BALLS ON THE DICK" incident or him trying to drown himself in the shallow ocean.
I think the autism has continued his entire life: choosing to spend thousands of dollars to base his movie production in Los Angeles when he could have filmed it in his hometown; the setting of Rocky, his favorite film. Taking floppy drives of an autobiography he wrote when he was 20 and just publishing it without editing it, revealing embarrassing moments of his life. Signing his company over so he doesn’t have to do the creative work of his channel, leaving him free to drill holes in desks and tape lights to the ceiling; making a documentary about climbing the rocky “mowden”, equipped with tennis shoes, random flexible branches for support, and a jug of Pepsi; only to give up lest he would fall to his death and make orphans of his children, the thought reducing him to tears.

I mean I could go on

Have you watched the BTS video? I think that made him an official cow. Do you want him to suffer with an onion in his mouth? :story:
That Behind The Scenes video was some crazy shit. How someone who considers himself a filmmaker could be so ignorant, lazy and just plain insane with his setup is absolutely flabbergasting.

So when do you guys think AVGN fell off as a series?

Personally I noticed the rot setting in after the movie but didn't reach critical mass until James entered the sellout stage and let a bunch of unfunny obese guys shit it up.

But like what video really solidified that feeling of "Oh shit this isn't gonna get better."
It's been a weird ride since the AVGN movie. His production value per episode has gone up, but it's clear James is just tired, at least when it comes to playing the Nerd. Can't say I blame him either, he's been doing the same bit for 20 years and I am certain he never expected it to run for so long. The Nerd became is his 9 to 5 and it shows.

I've never actually seen the movie. I never really had any interest in it when I found out it wasn't just a longer more cinematic avgn episode and was actually some kind of generic hollywood roadtrip buddy story or some shit.
It's genuinely not THAT bad as far as shitty B films go.

It's more or less just a generic roadtrip movie about the nerd and his black lover going on a quest to find out what happened with the ET game from back in the day, with stupid shit like a government conspiracy and ancient lovecraftian cyborg gods thrown in. If anything it kinda feels like a channel awesome movie but with actual cameras, effects that cost more than a dollar and less pedophiles. A completely separate, crazy plotline that the internet reviewer is just... involved with for no reason.

I was mostly disappointed that it felt so little like the actual AVGN series outside of the nerd being there and ET being the macguffin. I think it would've worked better if it was either about The Nerd as a regular guy looking for the ET landfill and commenting on his career as a reviewer OR the insane over-the-top bullshit like aliens and demons and shit that was in the youtube videos. Doing both and trying to be meta/le deep just came off as lame and gay.

It's like a 5/10. Forgettable.

I mean it is kinda sad, the guy wanted to be a Real TM Filmmaker but was railroaded into a single role that's more or less just a crass parody character who says fuck a lot.

James isn't really a talented filmmaker but the one thing he was actually successful at in terms of "filmmaking" (and pays the bills) is something he clearly has zero passion for. If it were me I'd either end the series or let the nerd be recast, there's obviously people out there who are more passionate about James' shit than James is (and can actually write jokes unlike the lard brigade).

The more his hairline recedes, the more the Nerd dies.

The "wannabe filmmaker > goofy internet reviewer> typecast > dream dying > bald" pipeline

Many such cases.

It all makes sense now.

biggest crime of the movie is, it's just boring as hell. It should've been 1.5 hours, tops....but it's nearly 2 hours.

Oh yeah definitely.

NGL I think an extended, maybe hour long, youtube special would've been way more effective.
I guarantee more people would've clicked on "AVGN: ET for Atari 2600" than pay money to go see a movie about a fucking youtuber.

Drake of the 99 Dragons. The episode is nothing to write home about but I actually thought it was decent for the most part. What got me was when he did some shitty greenscreen of himself on a dance floor. It wasn't funny at all and it just made me realize how lame the Nerd was getting.

Yeah, those are pretty much all the reasons I never bothered to watch it. I don't care enough to watch some random ass generic movie just because James is in it.

It's too bad it'll never happen but a Board James movie, that actually sticks to the established story, would have probably made for a better movie than anything he could have done with an AVGN movie. Even as an extended episode, AVGN just doesn't really seem like the best fit for a movie anyway.

AVGN never had a storyline outside of a couple past episode references. There was no character progression or even characters beyond the Nerd and whatever random guest showed up. It's basically a completely empty canvas if you try to take the character out of that format. He's just a random dude in a white shirt that says fuck at that point.

Board James on the other hand had an entire overarching plot with developed characters and even lore, goofy as it was. None of James stuff should've been a movie but why you'd pick the random variety review show over the show with an actual story I have no idea.

(I mean besides no one giving a shit about BJ and the Nerd being the only thing that made money lmao)

One last thing, can I just say that the stupid instrumental 8 bit intro sucks ass. It's nothing compared to the older theme/intro and I have no idea why he changed it.

Board James is my favorite of Bimmy's stuff, barely exceeding early Monster Madness. Mike and Bootsy really were a big part of that though. Ostracizing Mike, Kyle, Bootsy and the other OGs for Slobwave(tm) was his biggest fuckup imho

AVGN was abstract AKA "random access humor". (fuck me, I'm using a CWC term!) That was awesome back then, Adult Swim was built on it, and I still enjoy that shit to this day.

Because he doesn't want to pay Kyle.

I always liked Board James and I honestly think it's the best content he's made and nothing else he makes will likely ever top it. It's the closest to what I think is actually the kind of stuff he enjoys and would be good at making. Weird nerdy, dark comedy horror.

I don't really know all the details about their falling out but that really was dumb. It reminds me of bands where one person gets too big for their boots and tries to go out on their own but their solo stuff is kinda shit but the band they left sucks without them.
