I think that's part of it, but I also think the fact that she was the first big one to speak out and they couldn't just cancel her due to her very large pile of "fuck-you" money and valuable property that she's been smart enough to be able to sign contracts that mean she can't get kicked out of having influence over in the industry. It angers Tony and the crew that they can't punish this specific woman and make her bend her knees.100%.
I do feel like it's important to add here that Tony is attacking JKR as a "clearly unpleasant person to be around" or whatever on the basis of her being divorced despite the fact that it is public knowledge that she divorced her ex-husband because he was abusive. It doesn't surprise me to find Tony - or any trans-identified male tbh, they're all misogynistic shitheads - on the side of "if a woman is abused it's because she did something to deserve it and must be a terrible person," but it's crazy when they come right out and say it like that.
I also suspect in their mind she's the cause of all this and if she'd just shut up they wouldn't be facing the rather large backlash that's been building (this is of course not true - it would've come sooner or later, with or without Rowling). Even Brianna Wu, who is currently trying to LARP "le based tranny", can't bring himself to admit JK Rowling is right.
