2. April could be learning the art of weasel words from Nick. If it was Kayla's family:
1. That means Nick no longer considers Kayla as family if he replied "not my family." That's sad.

3. It also doesn't make much sense because aren't Kayla's family a part of the CHIPS picture in terms of looking after the kids? So, Wouldn't they then have insight/access to her through what I presume is an ongoing situation of the relatives having the children?

In either case, it's notable that Nick has taken such a distanced stance towards Kayla's family. It's clear Kayla had a strained relationship with her sister even before everything broke out, and that Nick doesn't like some members. But the disrespect has definitely elevated.

The clear distancing Nick has shown also points towards the divorce arc, which negates it being Kayla's family who called. After all, where would Kayla be staying and relying upon, if not with a family member?
