Just now discovered this thread. I actually have a story about dealing with one of these fuckers irl.

A few weeks ago I was at a bar with one of my close friends, who helps run his college's anime club. He asked me for advice about one person there who we'll call Buster. Buster was in his mid 30s and showed up nearly every week to these club meetings for years, longer than most if not everyone had been in college. Everyone there unanimously agreed that he had really bad vibes, he was very obviously a porn addict, but he never actually did anything wrong. Buster was just "that guy", and my friend wanted to know what he should do about him.

The suggestion I gave him immediately was to just search his Discord username and see if anything could work. Neither of expected to find anything, let alone immediately, but holy shit. His Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit, even his fucking AO3 was filled with loli porn, and defending it because "it's just a drawing". There was also a lot of defense for anime like Rising of Shield Hero, Redo of Healer and Gushing Over Magical Girls (for those who don't know - basically rape/loli fantasy anime). One thing we found was Buster giving a harsh critique on a review of Rising of Shield Hero he found on a different anime forum, where he basically gave away that he had rape fantasies, one of his lines was "some people deserve to be raped". He was clowned on and banned from said forum, yet still found some of the moderators on Reddit, which led to him getting clowned on. If we weren't hammered, we likely would've been horrified. Buster was banned immediately.

I still check on Buster sometimes. A few days after this discovery, we found a post of his on Reddit where he vented about people turning on him "for misunderstandings", and that he was "so depressed, that he hadn't showered in five days".

The post was made two days after the ban.

These people should be shot.

I too discovered this thread just recently. It was due in the making for a long time, and it's good to document these weirdos.

As for the story of "Buster", sorry that your friend had to deal with that. Anime is much larger than lolicon too: incredible works from the 1980s and 1990s with awe inspiring tales (Dragon Ball, to say the least), and he just goes for the equivalent of trash tier. A 20 year old roommate made me watch ten episodes of this before I had to just give up and tell him it was probably the worst show I'd ever seen. It was boring and I felt pretty uncomfortable about the depiction of the youngest girls. Like it seems like they are sexualized and I refused to go further. Then he tries to make me watch something else called "great teacher (something)" and it was about a teacher trying to get highschool girls!!! The anime/manga that killed the fandom for me was Bunny Drop, something that I thought was just an innocent story at first and that a friend had recommended. It's not innocent at all and there's a reason the anime doesn't show the time skip that the manga does.

Higurashi really is not for everyone due to various factors (violence, horror-moé juxtaposition, moé, Keiichi himself, Dr. Irie being obsessed with Satoko, cosplay fetish, etc.). I've given my concerns about the creator previously, and despite being a huge fan of Higurashi, I sometimes wonder about the loli fanservice if he's into it himself or is just pandering to his fellow otaku.

Now sometimes things do get emphasized more in adaptation. Oshimai was brought up previously, and there's evidence that shows the studio made it more fanservicey than the original manga, as shown here:

So in Higurashi, there's a notable twincest pandering*, and that is entirely DEEN's fault, none of that shit was in the original, and the girls all got put in more scandalous clothing over time and even the official figurines got more fanservicey. However, the loli stuff was always there from the start, so was something like the twincest and cosplay meant to cover their bases on the otaku pandering, or did someone on the team have a thing for it and Ryukishi just allowed it to become a staple of the series?

*It is worth mentioning that in Japan, it's believed that twins are reincarnated star-crossed lovers, so maybe it was just a "natural" progression with otaku.
