I’m honestly surprised he does break his stream in 70% game deving, 20% playing game and 10% reading chat.

He streams long enough and has the condition for it.

what game is he deving though?
I think "game dev" means editing Minecraft server config files most of the time, from what I've seen.
is mald doing the advent of code?
I'd also like to know this. Only heard of AoC last year from watching Primeagen, I thought it was gay af but it's actually pretty fun.

I’d assume Hearthbound since that is the game always in his titles.

To work on Hearhbound he would have to admit that:
1. He overscoped himself
2. The game code is spaghetti mess and requires major rewrite
3. He actually needs to learn to code
4. He isn't as skilled as he proclaimed

He won't touch Hearbound live now. He knows he is being watched so if he shows code now it will just add to his image of incompetency.

Hearbound is kill. (:_(

Now watch him stream Heartbound just because he saw that post... And then proceed to do zero actual coding, bugfixing, or adding new things into the game while keeping it running in the background as he drones on about some other life story, brags about his credentials once again, or just shows how UNIQUE and COOL some other part of the game is from a programming standpoint.

As the dude who quite literally watched 167 hours of Thor vods. It's actually 0.159% of game dev. The rest is grifting.

I know. I read your write up. Good write up.

I don’t understand how that number can be true. By which I mean I understand how it is, I just don’t remember the last time I have seen such a grifting arsehole.

He could split his stream as described and still grift for as long as most other streamers do thanks to his stated condition.

I have not seen such a lazy person before.

You won't have to hang around in the "indie gamedev community" for long to find plenty of them
Basically everybody that's in the indie game dev "Community", as in, actively interacts with people and define themselves as an indie dev first and foremost, are just grown up versions of kids who thought game development was cool when they were 12, solely because they thought it would give them clout.

Most of the indie gems are built by literally whos, who generally remain literally whos after the game release.

Pop quiz, without googling it, what's the username of the stardew valley dev?
Most of you probably don't remember.

ConcernedApe
But I only know that because I watched a docu about it last month

That said I do see your point, of my Top 5 recently played games on Steam (all of which are indie) I can only name one developer (it's Billy Basso, and that's because after finishing the game and searching for secrets I got pelted with interviews with him by the YouTube algorithm). I think it was Blow who said the quality of advice is usually inversely correlated with the volume of advice the person gives, because the more time they spend lecturing you the less time they're spending actually doing the thing they're supposed to be teaching you how to do. Real ironic coming from him I know, but it is a good marker, and to bring it back to the thread topic, it works very well with Jason.

Pixel (Cave Story), Notch (Minecraft), ConcernedApe (Stardew, previously mentioned), Red (Terraria), Data? (Cortex Command). Terry Toby Fox (Undertale)
Couldn't tell you off hand who did LaMulana, Hylics, Hotline Miami, or the handle for main guy behind Hopoo Games and Risk of Rain.

Fame from being an indie dev is a crap shoot, and I think largely related to actual influence on trends. Nobody remembers Zachtronics for Infiniminer, but his company definitely carved out a niche with programmatic puzzle games.

Concerned Ape.

I knew this cause I went to see an orchestra of the music. God it was good. I then learned they did not sell the soundtrack at the event.
Lucky bastard, when I tried to get tickets for it when it was in my city, they were sold out before I even woke up.
