Bad webcomics

There ought to be a thread about Schizobunny at some point. It's insane on so many levels, tonal whiplash and everything.
I've been considering one on SNP as a whole, but she really doesn't have enough content outside her comics to warrant it. A lot of it would be going "look at how incredibly stupid and dangerous her writing is" over and over again without much focus on the author herself because she mostly sticks to Comicfury and the Nuzlocke Forums (both places that would do much better off with threads of their own instead of as containment for SNP).

If she does something particularly outrageous (say, acts on that constant underage flirting she's putting in Pipe Up!) then I won't hesitate, but for now this thread is probably a better place to put it.

I somewhat agree on the other points you made, however I can't say that the story being told backwards would make this comic any better lol. It's been such a disastrous and insane introduction that no twist could fix it, and even "taking this seriously" as you recommend would be done far too late for it to matter. It's very clear that the author genuinely sympathizes with these people to the point of worship and I have a hard time believing she has the balls to scare away her small audience of vulnerable kids to tell them that this is actually very dangerous and a serious mental disorder by the end of it.

As for the usual Comicfury insanity, I've got a fucking hefty example today. Unfortunately, I cannot go through all of it myself because it's currently sitting at over 1.1k panels, and even 10 panels of this comic is too much for me to take.

"what happens next will shock you" is what happens when you give a deranged true crime fangirl a comic and tell her that she's free to say literally anything within it.

The entire cast is some flavor of gay, troon, or gay troon with zero exceptions save for the villains (of course) + the murder victims the plot is partially about, and it has the worst art style I have seen in some time. (The text looks like this on every single page. Sorry about your retinas.)
1734449450339.png1734449484560.png1734449522318.png1734449542154.png1734449592737.png1734449611527.png

The comic almost entirely consists of shot-reverse shot-shot of people crying and moaning about how the main character, an accomplice to a murder, is completely innocent and doesn't deserve the terrible life she's been given (one with loving parents and a stable friend group, only slightly tarnished by the fact that she helped murder two people and is rightfully getting backlash for it) while smoking out of bongs, posting on tumblr, and crying about the Kiwifarms.
1734449777787.png1734449804491.png1734449854107.png

For an idea of how most of this comic goes, here's an early scene from the first chapter addressing the murder:

Take away the Zoom framing, add more shitty coloring, clog up about half the panel with nonstop WORDS and you have most of this comic in a nutshell.

It thinks it's very smart and artsy for intercutting tumblr posts with Zoom interviews with actual real-life talking and making its characters smoke, cuss, and cut themselves a lot. It tries to set up this quirky cast of loveable people but forgets not to make them all total dicks, then ignores all these problems to make them go smoke pot some more and ruminate on how murder isn't so bad if you were "tricked", actually. It is nothing but tell, with all the "show" being meaningless and useless to the plot, and the first 100 or so panels are just talking about what happened in insufferable tumblrspeak and crying about how the main character gets annoying DMs sometimes. The character is supposed to be sympathized-with through MLP episodes and SanRio vent art.

What makes me the most concerned is that the main character seems to be an author self-insert.

"Maximumgraves" (Twitter, tumblr, Bluesky, Instagram, Twitch; all archived) is a transmasculine 23 year old true crime fan who was homeschooled as a kid, is a fan of My Little Pony and collects the figures to put on her dresser, and generally does every single thing Milo does down to the impotent whining and smoking pot. She's even dodged the question of whether the comic was based off a real crime case before, even hinting at personal involvement in it, which is the most concerning part by far.

Someone like this self-inserting into a comic and being painfully unoriginal in writing their characters or plot isn't the concern here, it's the fact that the author is not immediately denying her own possible involvement in a crime. The fact that she did not immediately go "no, this comic was not inspired by any kind of real murder" is concerning, even if there's a decent chance she's just faking this for attention. I really hope she is, because I can easily see someone this insane committing a crime and then making a comic whining about how murderers are treated to siphon sympathy out of clueless teenagers.

(comments from underneath a panel in which the main character's dad expresses sorrow for the state of his womanchild)

I'm scratching the tip of the iceberg here, seriously, and can't bring myself to look through more of this shit because it disgusts me on a deep level and the art makes my eyes burn. I'll just throw up a few choice panels below and call it a day from here on out because this comic is too bad for me to tolerate.

I see, guess we'll have to wait, then.

I don’t think it’d be a twist. Since the author legitimately sympathizes with these people, it’d be more effective, for the story she wants to tell, to actually show the friends interacting with him to begin with which is surprising in a way, since she clearly wants to present it as “differently-abled” and not a serious condition. You can show "different abilities" being an asset while treating it as an actual condition that deserves respect, but obviously that's asking too much of people like this. I’m actually surprised she started with that Patrick Bateman intro it’s that much more jarring. If you want more kids to read your bunny story, don’t tell it like a horror movie.

That said, the comic trying to portray murderers as sympathetic is rich. It’s like Dansburst wanting people to sympathize with pedophiles, being one himself. I can definitely see someone like the author committing a crime and whining about how murderers are treated. The only way I can see her not denying any involvement is she thinks she should get away with it, that she didn't do anything wrong, she doesn't get the gravity of what she did, or all the above. Bring back asylums.

I'd wish it'd get help but at this point a .45 is the most expedient and humane option.

I actually follow this comic and yeah, it's really, really weird that for all it seems to show how parasitic and weird True Crime is, the author is a True Crime fan who very specifically refuses to confirm or deny the comic having a basis in real life just because someone went "Hey, what inspired your comic?".
It also kinda bothers me how boring all the shots and posing are, there's not a lot of experimentation going on, or much of anything going on, so it feels painfully 2d and repetitive, especially in scenes where characters are calling each other.
I'll be glad for Rich Burlew when he finally completes Order of the Stick. Judging by his update schedule, I don't think he enjoys making it anymore, but he's too close to the end to quit.
Oh yeah, he's DESPERATE to hang it all up, but remembers the comic is still technically ongoing, so he writes some new dialogue, puts the characters in a slightly different position in the same room, and calls it a day.

This looks too precise, you're here right now aren't you fucko?

Given the recent shootings someone should be calling the feds on your psycho ass.
There's literally nothing stopping you from moving to a town that's close to 0% white, plenty of places like that in our nation now, but of course you don't want to because its hardly as nice as whiteyville isn't it?

Who am I kidding? this was made by the pastiest white girl imaginable, as most of this tumblr race baiting is.

Or a tranny, white too of course.

Choosing to show two characters video chatting, right down to copy-pasting the software interface, when they could be interacting any other way is the most embarrassing part of this. ("I'm a miserable tranny and abrasive to everyone, why is my life so hard" is just white noise for these comics.) Write what you know taken to the extreme when you refuse to go outside.

I feel so sorry for the fox character.
God, me too. Harpy or whatever the imaginary bird’s name is has no sense of boundaries. Just acting like some kind of deranged yaoi fangirl right off the bat! And calling him a boytoy to his face? Are we honestly supposed to LIKE her? This is making me wonder how bad the other personalities are going to be!

Some of the comments are pointing out that "Harper" is violating Kai's boundaries by pressing him like this, but also that "she" may know more about the situation than she's letting on. She wants confirmation about what caused the fight to see what broke Percy.

The others are just "Harperrrr lmao."
Edit: there is a way to have characters drive conflict while keeping them likeable, but yea this isn't the way to do it.

The author writes Kiwifarms with way too much precision not to be an active user or lurker on some level. Coincidentally, his self insert is ALSO seen browsing it in a few scenes.

New Schizobunny, previous page added for context.

Imagine dating someone, then finding out they were so clinically insane that their original mind is gone, and one of the personalities in their body is calling you a boytoy and asking if you had sex.

a comic about
1. the aftermath of a murder
2. posting on the internet
3. the midwestern united states
4. being gay and transgender

But he forgot

5. absolutely sucking at comics.

I know Tatsuya Ishida is in the middle of a rant / preplanned arc but doesn't he normally jump to be topical and include current events? Nothing about the AUH shooter.
I think he has a buffer in place because he's always a week or two behind when he tries to do something topical.

I just want to know what the fuck is going on in his personal life where he's now a white supremacist who hates the jews. It's fucking weird, I really wish he'd drop this shit and just have Slick and Nique start hanging out again but it's probably for the best he's abandoned the old crowd. Though considering Slick is a white blonde guy, that makes him the messiah in Tat's new worldview.

Ishida saw the british guy who tried to transracial himself into a Korean and is realizing that it might be possible to do that in reverse, so White Supremacy is now cool and good.
