Reminds me. One of the most interesting men I've ever met was a guy who, despite not being in his late 40s, went by Bob. He was the rare type who was charismatic and eccentric enough to pull off having the name Bob, he wore the name and the name didn't wear him. He had the exact opposite of a lil dood's new name.
I imagine that if I ever met a woman whose true and honest birth name was Lilith, she'd be like a female version of Bob.

Been seeing Vivian pop up more and more. You'd think they'd avoid that what with Gamergate (which still lives rent-free in their heads, somehow) and their character Vivian James. Maybe they secretly like her.

Elon Musk's son changed his name to Vivian upon trooning out. It seemed odd to me, because Vivian is traditionally a male name - it got applied to girls by fathers who only had daughters and decided to give one a male name (just like Shirley or Courtney).

That could be what sparked it then. I also forgot there's a character named Vivian in Paper Mario TTYD who's a tranny in the Japanese version.

I feel like I encounter a lot of tranny Vivians. As @Dambusters' Dog II says, it is an ironic choice for a troon, as it used to be considered a male name.

Honestly, it just reminds me of the punk from The Young Ones.

Is changing my name career suicide?​

General Question

Hi! I’m 31, NB/transmasc, and i’m working on entering the professional workforce as a CPA (I’m still in school, but that’s the goal.)

An opportunity to change my name legally has arisen, but i’m still undetermined on What name i want to choose. While I go by Bat with friends, and Lilith at work, i know Bat is a little out of the question for a “real” name, if i want to be taken seriously, and I only use Lilith because it’s Not My Deadname, but the goal is to be able to pass without defaulting to “ma’am” I’ve contemplated Franklin (Frank, Frankie, Franklin) but i’m not super married to it yet.

The other name i’ve seriously considered is “Jackal”, which I am very aware has similar problems of being just, an animal name, but i figure it’s also easy enough to pass as “Jack” or “Jackie”, and if anyone pries i can tell them my parents had a weird sense of humor…. But if a prospective company is looking into me and find out that not only is it “Jackal” but i Chose it? is that gonna murder any chance of getting a job easily? i know i’m probably overthinking it, but i’m also having a hard time thinking of another legal name that i’d want, that would fit me, and sound good…

(i’ll also take recommendations for similar “neutral” names that are transformative, that’s a large part of the appeal)

ETA: No, i do not plan on introducing myself as “Jackal” at work or on business cards! I’d be using“Jack” or “Jackie”, just like i’d probably go by “Frank” instead of Franklin or i donnow, “Bart” for “Bartholomew”, hence my desire for permutatable names. I am aware Jackal would not be appropriate, as otherwise I’d just bite the bullet and go by Bat, haha

I’m wondering if someone looking into my full name would raise an eyebrow

Why not just go with Jack? Why choose, for yourself, a name that embarrasses you? This isn’t even the first time I’ve seen a pooner pick a name and then ask to be called something else. God, pooners are exhausting.

They -never- pick a normal boring girls name. Even here where ye olde norse names are back on the table: Saga, Björn, Solveig. Names that get your attention but aren't absurd. Shit, we got a celebrity who married a "professional mermaid" and they shat out 6-7 kids together. Their names are the kind of 'Brave', 'Wild', 'Free' in native tongue. And even those names grow on you. I can imagine looking into a kindergarten class full of Sasuke and Ajax and think "Brave? Oh that's cool".

Lilith seems to be coming up more and more on baby name websites as a suggestion, especially for leftie fedora tipping atheist parents who want to stick it to the establishment by giving their daughter a name most associate with a demon/evil woman or they simply don't know/care about the connotations and think it sounds pretty, though if I ever met a Lilith who was named that at birth I'd feel sorry for her and her shitty 2edgy4u tranny name. Also reading back through this thread I noticed Sky and variants haven't been mentioned yet - Sky/Skye and Skylar/Skyler, more often than not used by pooners and theyfabs but I've seen it on MTF trannies too in keeping with the nature theme a lot of the gender people seem to like. In the Pooner Zoo thread there was a girl with down syndrome who'd been convinced she was trans and her mother was raising funds for the boob chop and her name was Sky, and I've definitely seen it used fairly often amongst the general troon community.
