It just comes from conflating gold stocks with real wealth, nothing more, nothing less. Gold was plentiful in Mali but money isn't goods, money isn't services. Same as the Incas having so much silver that they used it in construction instead of for commerce.

The other issue is telling the truth after lying for so long holds less of a punch. If he came out day one and admitted it was woke the backlash would have died down a bit by now. Now he lied for a week and confirms it all is true and then some. Maybe he should have stopped larping as a republican on twitter for a bit and pay attention to the backlash.
