Why do South Asians get put in the Asian category on the US Census forum? I know India is in Asia, but I always think about East Asians when I think about Asians. South Asians are entirely different from East Asians. Why are they considered the same demographic when they aren’t? Shouldn’t there be a category for East Asians and a category for South Asians?

Depends on where you are from, in Britain East Asians are known as Orientals, and Asians are Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis etc.

The original term Asian meant people from what is now Turkey, and the Greeks would have regarded the Persian invaders as Asiatics too. But since America came to dominate world culture, others started regarding Asians as only East Asians, because the bulk of Asian immigration into North America was from East Asia.

If I remember correctly, the term "Asian" itself was pushed by left-wing groups during the Vietnam war to create a pan-Asian Third Worldist movement against American imperialism, the previous term used for Chinese was "yellow" or "Oriental", but they wanted to include people from South-East Asia, who typically have darker skin and would fit more into the "brown" category.

I've been to Guyana, and they are actually not jeets, nor do they look like them, but rather jeet/african hybrids. The streets were also clean and the hotel had indoor plumbing, so I'd say they don't. There's also a massive amount of chink-owned businesses there, literally half the stores had chink names

I've had Jeets hit me up constantly on Linkedin asking for references for job postings at my company.

I get lots as well. The concept of a reference - using an existing employees experience with someone as a way of vetting - is just another aspect of society to be gamed in the beady eyes of the Jeet, like fake degrees and certifications. Best just ignore and block them.

Look no further than the racial/religious makeup of their legislature and population. It is overwhelmingly Chinese in both. Indian does not even hit two digits.
The Muslims are actually more of a problem than the Indians.

LKY was a race realist who would have preferred to not have indians or malays at all. but since he had to deal with them his policy was one of strict meritocracy. he wouldn't let the chinese majority run roughshod over the indians publicly nor would he give the indians affirmative action because they were a less well off minority. the best man got the job regardless of skin color and would be treated fairly.

this not only kept the ethnic chinese from resting on their laurels but also gave indians an incentive to excel since they would be taken just as seriously if they did a good job.

you can see the results of that in indian singaporeans like kishore mahbubani and sr nathan who are a cut above the subcontinental type that come out of indian institutions.
