Releasing a new feature to paying subscribers of a freemium service before general availability is not uncommon. Plenty of free to play MMOs will do exactly that and this isnt the first time VRChat has gone down the "Closed Beta -> Paying Subs -> General Avaliability" release pipeline.
I feel like if VRChat wanted to do a "Aha its actually a paid only feature you were tricked" rug pull they would have done it with something thats more desirable to the playerbase, like the mobile clients or group instances. Because a rug pull like that works exactly once so it would be kind of dumb for VRChat to save their one free rugpull for something that most players are going to do as a requirement to access kid-free instances or so that the era of "you have to send the owner of this random ass discord server a full pic of your ID" comes to an end rather then something they actually want.
Also a key indicator that they arent doing this as a rug pull is that they are explicitly preventing IDs from being used on more than one account to make ban evasion harder. If they wanted money, they wouldnt do that so that they can ban accounts and their alts will buy a new subscription to VRC+
Also if they were doing this for money they wouldnt allow non VRC+ users to get the age verifacation in the first place, but they did with the initial closed beta and those users got to keep their verifacation.
Its much more likely that they are doing this as part of a phased rollout/live testing procedure rather than a rugpull to make more money off socially stunted retards with enough disposable income to buy a headset.

Wait, if the verified-only setting for an instance is toggleable, won't that just mean all the unverified kids on the game will just end up in unverified instances where no one is verified or at least doesn't have to be? And thus people that want to play with kids will just go to instances that don't toggle it on...??? Am I missing something here? This seems to only "protect" kids if the instance owner age-gates the instance. But doesn't prevent kids from playing the game, which is sort of the central issue. You can optionally make an instance adult-only. But you can't keep adults out of instances with kids, and you can't have a kid-only instance. Unless I'm misreading something this seems completely pointless.

I'm still not touching this shit. Being surrounded by retards perving on literally everyone, not just children, or telling their "super serious" life story while using a fucking furry avatar is some the gayest shit I've ever heard of, and every single video I've ever seen regarding this "game" solidifies that. There is no improvement they can make to make this "game" less cancerous and painful, the only way is full sail removal of the pests, and at that point you have no player base to speak of.

Sorry to interrupt the news, but while doing some research related to the Splatoon GMOD thread, I stumbled upon MissBreezyKawaii, a tranny VRChat boobie streamer and someone who I think should be covered in this thread.
He used to be Captain BAZ (which comes from his initials, Bryce Aaron Zimmer). I covered him a little in this post tracking everyone involved in the Lewd House scandal in the Splatoon GMOD community, but I found this Google Drive specifically related to MissBreezyKawaii and I thought it prudent to write a post about it. I apologize if I do miss or gloss over something, there is a lot to go through in this Google Drive. For most images, they were under the "Controversies" folder; I will include paths to the image if it's from there/can be found in there.
TL: DR; Splatoon fan who was way older than the target audience, was an “artist” who was obsessed with Marina from Splatoon 2, was found to be reposting art without credit and was an art tracer; was so obsessed with both Marina and grooming minors (as young as 9) that his wife divorced him. After losing his old accounts, he came back as VRChat "Goddess" Miss Breezy Kawaii.
Now calling himself "Brianna," Bryce on the “Miss Breezy Kawaii” channel would start to make highly-sexualized content on his YouTube channel. He leaned hard into lewdness, even making an Onlyfans account and promoting it on YouTube.

Despite being so sexualized, it seems that none of his videos are adult-only; anyone with or without an account can watch any of his YouTube videos. His YouTube Community posts are especially gross.

Egregiously, on January 5th, 2025, Bryce uploaded a stream where his friends enabled the NSFW parts of their VRChat avatars. This stream isn't age restricted BTW, I was able to access it without a YouTube account.
The people behind the Google Drive tried to report this video, but unfortunately their reports were dismissed and the video stayed.
Going a little back in time now; Bryce needed a VRChat avatar for his channel, so he went to a VRChat friend and got an avatar. He would later accuse this friend of scamming him, claiming the friend said that the files for the avatar were lost in a factory-reset, so said friend will not be working on the avatar anymore and thus wasting over $200 over the years. I believe this friend to be Bnnuy Curves, based on Bryce's Discord bio after the "scam."

Bryce’s girlfriend and then-channel manager Miss Florence/cuzwecare1662 (someone he managed to hook up with after his transition) pretended to be a Google Dev in order to intimidate Maxwell.
The stress of dealing with this apparently made Florence have a miscarriage, which Bryce prompty blamed on Maxwell, along with other insane accusations, such as claiming that Maxwell wrote to Bryce and said he and his friends were going to gang rape him.

Despite this, it doesn't look like Bryce and Florence were too close. Bryce broke up with her on April 17, 2024, supposedly due to her trying to take Bryce’s computer for scam money. Bryce claimed that Florence was “mentally, physically, verbally, and sexually” abusive. Florence would later call out Bryce on her personal Facebook, stating that Bryce was the abusive one.
Not content with leaving things as is, Bryce went after Florence and her new girlfriend, Anastasia. Bryce claimed that both were meth heads, Anastasia went around having sex for meth, and Florence had sex with her family members. On his Facebook, he would post his DMs between him and Anastasia.

I think the only reason he got away with this is the fact that no one else seems to have noticed him; I never would have learned about him if not for a random piece of art he did for a friend (who got caught up in a scandal I was researching). Horrifying to know this is the kind of person that dwells on VRChat.

Apparently, BAZ's sister-in-law commented on these posts, revealing that BAZ hits his kids and supposedly left a handprint on his then 1 or 2 year old daughter and that he is going to rehab because of CPS.

BAZ used many different Instagram accounts over the years, so while the name may be different in the Instagram screenshots, I believe them to be talking to BAZ.
As all groomers do, he had a Discord and Discord servers. Horrifyingly, he had kids as young as 8 join.

Going a little back in time now; Bryce needed a VRChat avatar for his channel, so he went to a VRChat friend and got an avatar. He would later accuse this friend of scamming him, claiming the friend said that the files for the avatar were lost in a factory-reset, so said friend will not be working on the avatar anymore and thus wasting over $200 over the years. Having compiled enough evidence, Eternal Maxwell created a Dropbox containing all of Bryce's known controversies, both as Captain BAZ and as Miss Breezy Kawaii. Bryce caught wind of the Dropbox and immediately reported it, taking it down.

Now normally one out of the many controversies would destroy any social media presence, but somehow Bryce still exists on the Internet as Miss Breezy Kawaii. In fact, he is 20 subscribers away from getting 2,000 subs, and he was streaming the day of when I was typing this.
I think the only reason he got away with this is the fact that no one else seems to have noticed him; I never would have learned about him if not for a random piece of art he did for a friend (who got caught up in a scandal I was researching). Horrifying to know this is the kind of person that dwells on VRChat.

Vrchat is a cesspool and age verification is going to help for those few "normal" (as normal as you can be playing VR chat) people that don't want to spend thier time with children, but all in all it doesn't do anything to stop pedos from finding kids. As long as they are allowed on the platform it's gonna happen

A little side story from the ongoing Glass thread, Glass had a stream on Friday March 14th, which UrghBla joined call with him to argue with him, as per usual. What is interesting is that a random Glass viewer asked to join the call to get mad at UrghBla for not taking his predator claims seriously from an earlier discussion in UrghBla's Discord.
For context, UrghBla is a regular character in the Glass story, being someone who presents themselves as a VRC "To Catch a Predator" content creator, before focusing on Glass A-logging.
Glass used this as a situation to shit on UrghBla for not actually doing real work to protect children (while Glass himself has twice sent pictures of his balloon shaped penis to underage girls). The conversation takes a turn when chatters uncover that this caller (MicKux) has himself been exposed for being a VRC Predator himself. MicKux eventually stops talking, leaves call, and leaves their Discords.

MicKux was exposed by YouTuber Sileskios in following video (age-restricted, can only be viewed on YouTube): VRCHAT PREDATOR "PROMISES" TO CHANGE
MicKux used to go by XAV on VRC/Discord and SmurfinnXD in Roblox, video goes over various events from 2023/2024 about him preying on children. He also has his own YouTube channel where he trolls in VRC as well as exposes predators.

From being active in the Glass thread, I genuinely feel like there is a strong correlation between VRC content creators doing "predator expose" content and they themselves participating in degenerate and predatory behavior. Characters like Glass, Sam Saint, UrghBla, Prodisty, Solar, and now MicKux have all seemed to have degenerate and/or predatory behavior documented one way or another.
I don't know if it's a combination of guilt, projection, and/or hiding degeneracy ("how can I be a predator if I catch them?"). But the culture of VRC seems to breed this degenerate behavior which attracts predators at a relatively high rate.

Genuinely makes me wonder if VRC is an actual mindworm that turns people into degenerates (or at least awakens something in these people that was otherwise dormant). Even if you go in saying "I'm here to troll" or catch predators or whatever, after enough time you end up like them.
I imagine any extended amount of time surrounded by those kind of people fucks with your head, VR probably accentuates it.
