This is very important. Not just in the specific issue of giving advice to losers who adopt a cliche version of what they want to be. That’s sort of obvious as an overcorrection of the bad advice Millennials got that women like respectful men; it’s only marginally more successful because it will at least prime you to try and sleep with women (so if you’re a moron you think “it works” and keep trying it to ever more diminishing returns). But there’s the broader point of how it exploits informational asymmetry— if you know that the mainstream is wrong you implicitly trust anyone else who also says that. But, of course, you only know the mainstream is wrong because it practiced some transparency while these guys are clear as mud. But, ultimately they’re telling you things that obviously cut against any innately-felt sense of good and bad while pretending you’re brainwashed. The fact it all ends in tears just reaffirms that subversion was all it ever was.
