Unfortunately, he is very transparently hitting the wall of combinatorics realising that when you make a game with 400 narrative choices to make in each room, eventually you have to tie that all up somehow, if I had to guess, apart from him simply just not working on the game, that's probably what's taking so long, he's written himself into a corner where his game needs to have millions of potential endings.

I think this is the case as well, he was probably in a much worse headspace before he blew up and feels like the game doesn't represent "him" anymore. The same thing happened with YIIK
(A), the developers re-wrote a good third of the game because it felt like it didn't represent them anymore after their mother died, and Mald is probably going to have to do the same thing when he stops streaming 12 hours a day.
Now, I don't know which developer I'm insulting more by the comparison, but the Allansons at least tried to turn the game around after the disastrous reception. Unsure if they were successful, but the reviews appear to be much more positive.

I sincerely believe Mald 1. knows his only option is to outsource heartbound dev if he ever desires to actually complete the game, and 2. is afraid the devs will find out who he is(since heartbound is tied to his personality like blizzard nepo-hire) and extort the living shit out of him. Mald knows outsourcing the game will damage whatever is left of his reputation among his cult, so he has to have them discreetly work on his game without credit, and be forced to pay them extra in the process to prevent them from talking.

Between this, and his dwindling revenue as a content creator, Mald watchers will be eating good for years to come lol.
