Postmortem Blinded by the Light

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Personally, I think the top bar looked better when it matched the width of the rest of the page.
The colors look great now, everything’s really coming together nicely.

Edit: I have noticed that after I post something, the text in the reply box remains there. even after I leave the thread and come back.

When posting a reply, the text box does not wipe automatically after the post goes through and I need to erase it manually, but only on mobile. Works fine on desktop.

On Android phones and tablets using the latest Tor Browser:

It used to be that tapping on the Like button did not bring up the menu of stickers like it does on the desktop version of the site. However, if I hovered with a pen, the menu would pop up.

Now, I don't get the sticker menu when hovering with the pen.

On the desktop using the latest Tor Browser:

I can no longer right-click on the Like link to open another tab to confirm what sticker I want to apply.

On Both:

On the main page, the links to the various forum sections and threads are now the theme text color, instead of matching the color of the icons. Perhaps this is deliberate, but I liked it when they matched.

Is it possible to fix profile reacts (no options showing w/ hover) alongside these? Or is that perma borked
 
The contrast of quoted/linked posts inside a post is so bad it is hardly visible.
There should be a clearly visible border around this. (Its from the community submissions thread here)

All dark variants have a problem where the background color of the webpage do not have the same tone as the rest of the UI elements, so there's a very noticeable clash between the grayscale background and the bluish UI elements. It's really easy to miss since normally there is an image in place of the color, but if you're using the Stealth style or have a shit connection you can see it.

I suggest setting it to match the lighter half of the top bar, which is #22262a. The end result looks something like this (applied using Inspect Element), but do keep the heavily lossy webp compression in mind:

Mobile theme observations:
  1. Remove the top border radius on both sides from the menu bar (where the avatar, DMs and notifications are). It wasn't there before and it looks awkward.
  2. Decrease the padding of the menu bar or try to center its elements better vertically. They look too pushed down currently.
  3. Increase the top padding of the breadcrumb navigation bar to separate the contents better from the menu bar.
EDIT: Someone above said post drafts aren't getting cleared upon posting. I'm experiencing the same issue.

BROKEN:
- Sometimes when replying to a thread, the reply will send, but the composer will not reset. So the post I just wrote is still in the text area field, the uploaded attachments are still there, etc.
- Site tries to load a webmanifest in the header, but since it's called without cookies, it will always be blocked by KiwiFlare

WISHLIST:
- hide the button to insert attachments in full size / force inserting thumbnails ( .js-attachmentAction[data-action="full"] { display: none; })
- show the color of the user join date on mobile with a small bar on the user image (mockup here)

No it's happening for a lot of people, I'd imagine it's a fairly easy fix in essence but maybe some xenforo shit makes it harder or it's low priority. Still happening for me.
 
On android, brave browser:

nJust a nitpick, but the way the kiwi logo goes all the to the bottom of the top nav bar doesn't look very good. A bit of a buffer between the bottom of the logo and the margin of the bar would look much better.

Echoing an earlier post, Highlights looked better before. I chalk it up to the space it's taking up. If it could be more compact like it was before and chew up less real estate it would be comfy again.
 
The arrows for the buttons to jump to the previous/next highlighted post are small and hard to tap on mobile.

I know this probably won't get changed because Josh probably disdains mobile users (I happen to use an iPad but whatever), but I can hope at least.

That’s happening every time for me now, rather than just occasionally. (iPhone, duck or safari browser)

NEW BUG: highlighting a sentence in a post to reply to it isn’t working. I could have sworn it was yesterday?
That feature is normally bulletproof.

There’s something a bit weird going on with clicks/highlights in general too - I noticed if I want to give a different sticker than “thumbs up”, previously you’d press and hold the icon for a second to get the sticker panel. Now it seems more difficult, it always gives thumbs up or highlights the text instead.
