Frankly the decisions of the moderation team were unsalvageably bad.

• Inequitably enforcing rules on behalf of chosen favorites. Allowing discord cliques to effectively moderate threads by brigading reports.
• Shutting down any activism ala gamergate or HWNDU style troll campaigns.
• Shutting down any community feedback. Nuking /qa/ to protect the sanctity of /lgbt/, and not providing any replacement. Hiro completely vanished and obviously didn't care.
• The deluge of obvious spam threads and seemingly no way to solve it despite their L33T superhacker reputation.
• A lack of sentimentality about the site's history and culture. Letting /b/ become a trashheap might be the ultimate sign of it.
• Letting fetish-driven discord spammers take over entire boards and launch raids which were systematically overlooked.

The fun died, the creativity died. With /b/ dead the site was failing to bring in new younger users. /pol/ became a hive of boomers with no integration into the culture, fun threads substituted with twitter screenshots.

Communications with the mods on the IRC revealed an alarming level of detachment. Kind of like an ex-troll who went senile and devolved into semi-schizophrenic rambles.
