It's a little more complicated than that. They started ignoring the board shortly after it was opened because Hiro fucked off and started ignoring the site again as well, so basically the jannies left /qa/ open to get spammed with constant off topic stuff as this catty way of "owning" their critics. The only place you can post your feedback is a board that gets spammed with soyjaks that we ignore, ha ha. /qa/ started to develop its own culture and jannies let it get spammed by other boards all the time, so when they retalitated against /lgbt/ the whole thing basically blew up in the janny's faces. They closed /qa/ to try to save face but it's 100% a monster of their own making which is what makes this hack so poetic.
The problem is new altchans get spammed by CP, almost like someone has a vested interest in insuring 4chan is the only image board around. So they would need to overcome that somehow. The sharty has made some headway on that issue so I guess it's a question of if they would be willing to share their methods of dealing with it.
