Ironically what once made 4chan great ended up being one of it's biggest flaws : total anonymity. It made it way too easy for discord troons to astro-turf every topic and board into submission. You simply cannot have any discussion worth having anymore on a board that doesn't require an account of some kind in order to post. It's ghey and I hate that it's like that, but it is how it is.

The kiwifarms allowing guest accounts or something similar would ruin this site, too many troon groups who would weasel their way in "How do you do fellow kiwi's, TTD am I right?" and would then actively try to subvert and derail every conversation.

Unmoderated boards are kind of a paradox because if you let total retards or deliberate malicious actors flood nonsense out, it is effectively censoring other people trying to participate more genuinely. It's called a "Heckler's Veto", and it's especially bad on anonymous boards without thread ids.

Like on one hand you really do want people to be able to post as quickly and as freely as you want, but on the other hand that kind of behavior drives people away. A site like 4chan is popular because it's popular. There's lots of little IBs that are basically stillborn, despite some being good ideas, because unpopular things remain unpopular.

One trick is to let anyone/everyone set curation/moderation tags/flags, but also have the moderation flags set by someone do absolutely nothing unless you choose to recognize that someone as one of your moderators. You can bootstrap new users by having a default set of designated moderators, but the user can edit it if they decide to have different moderators.

Put the execution of the pageflow rules clientside and you can let users make their filters as arbitrarily complex and abstract as they want since they only have to render their own pages. All the platform does is spray everyone with the same firehose of sewage. It's up to the users to decide what corn they wanna pick out and eat.

There needs to be total transparency and accountability in order to discourage moderators power-tripping so much.

This usually just gets you insufferable rules lawyering.

You want the moderators' actual behind-the-scenes processes for deciding to shitcan users to be well-defined, measured and diplomatic. Then they wait for the to-be-shitcanned user to do something that will make for the most entertaining ban. You want the moderators to APPEAR to be arbitrary, capricious, and unaccountable, but ALSO most of the users don't really mind this because the power-tripping sperg-outs only seem to take down users who deserved it and no one liked, anyway, so it's just funny and endearing.

But gradually the OG moderators who understand this pretending-to-be-retarded for-the-lulz dynamic leave and are replaced by actual power-tripping retards. Such is life.

I was thinking the fediverse might be a good place for 4chan refugees to set up shop, on the pleroma side. They'd go on every block list in the world at first, but they could probably carve out a comfy corner of it for themselves, without many trannies. They're all on blocklist-happy Mastadon. There's the problem of user names and hosting instances though, that's a far cry from anonymity. Still, they'd be free to post all the stuff the tranny jannies have been banning all this time, and make rheir own 4chan in a way.

My experience was different: many thread generals had a strong enough culture to resist troonvasions (or were just not interesting to them like almost everything on /fit/). For everything else I had the "1PBTID Thread Filter" user script.

I used to filter blacked threads out and that alone wiped out half the board on /gif/. It was like a ghost town. At any given time there were like 11 threads just for interracial blacked porn, not including the WMAF shit. Add tranny porn into that and it was fucking dead. Every porn thread wasn't even mostly porn, either. It was all retards arguing about their penis size.

There had to be something fucked with the mods/jannies on /gif/, because other "porn" boards were not as bad.
