Yeah, but is there even any worthy avengers from 4Chins above script kiddie level capable of punching back at Soyjak Bois? Doubtful.

No, I made it up. There's no good excuse. Well, apparently the excuse from RapeApe is "we were gonna but we didn't do it fast enough". Wanna guess how many months they've paid for a rack of servers that have sat unused? I bet far too many. They're running ancient FreeBSD, zero maintenance. They're clearly scared that it'll just fucking explode if they run updates.

From what I've seen, it very much would explode. The PHP is written for versions prior to 7.x. In PHP 7.x a large number of common builtin functions that had been deprecated since 5.x were outright removed. An example that's in use in 4chan's released code is the oldschool mysql_* family of functions. These are the oldschool way you'd interact with mysql in PHP, but in 7.4, these were removed with mysqli_* being a transitional method you could use that has similar syntax, or preferably PDO objects with prepared statements.

There's other stuff too, like old syntax for accessing array and string offsets, etc, that simply aren't supported in modern PHP.

The kicker here is if they migrated to a new OS, most new OS's don't have ancient versions of PHP in their repos. They'd have to backport ancient versions of PHP to the new OS, or else rewrite large portions of the codebase. No new OS: no updated secure packages for shit like ghostscript, gifsicle, pngcrunch, etc. But, they get to keep their shitty ancient PHP running without having to take months to audit, rewrite, and test the new code + infrastructure.

Not really a good excuse on their part, but it definitely would have exploded if they just balls to the wall updated the OS and underlying packages.

Did anyone here ever have the displeasure of reading/posting in the Guitar and Bass General threads on /mu/? There was a schizo there who dedicated almost a decade of his life to the 24/7 killing of conversations and general shit-flinging on those threads. The sheer determination of this singular person was impressive, he didn't even take breaks on holidays. He would run everyone off the threads then pretend to be multiple people and have conversations with himself until people started coming back. If things got too boring he would venture on over to the boards other generals like /metal/ and /prod/ and stir up shit there for a bit, but generally he liked to stay in the guitar threads.

If you posted a picture of any guitar that wasn't a Gibson Les Paul or made in America Fender he would accuse you of being a Brazilian. If he saw people having cordial conversations he would pretend to be one of the posters and say something rude. If you ignored him he would pretend to be you then reply to himself. If you flung shit back, even better because now you're contributing to the thread being a steaming pile of shit. When the general would inevitably slow down to a crawl because everyone left he would repeat phrases like "I win" over and over again.

The part that I always found weirdest is that he would never seem to get banned, in fact people speaking out against him would get banned, which he would gloat about whenever it happened. When making new threads jannies would delete legitimate ones and leave up his low effort troll OP's. I always thought this was an anomaly until reading about the very similar experiences of others on boards like /vg/, which I never really went on. Basically confirms in my mind that the jannies were intentionally trying to make the place as unusable as possible.
/mu/ always has insane schizos so I'm not surprised he existed.

Speaking of schizos. I remember this flip schizo from modern day kpg. He would always enter other boards, generals, rage about his waifu and spam gore. There was something in /mu/'s water that produced insane anons.

@Null what do you think is going to happen when 4chan inevitably comes back online? This is obviously way too big for them to pretend that nothing happened especially the longer the site is offline. I feel like there almost has to be some sort of concessions on some things like the 900 second timer or some of the moderation policies if they want to have any chance of recovering the site’s userbase. That might just be wishful thinking on my part.

If Tumblr is sad about 4chan and is welcoming what sad sacks escape its demise, then the 4chan I knew was long dead.
Tumblr was always just what you made of it. Back in the day there used to be a pretty active neo-fascist subculture. I still have a tank top with a totenkopf and "surf the kali yuga" printed on it that I bought on tumblr from some proto-RETVRN chud in like fucking 2013.

"4chan's users might not show it openly, but I know they appreciate what you do as well"

No we don't, you assholes have done everything in your power to stomp out board culture and fun while picking favorites and letting bullshit slide for at least a decade now

impossible to predict. I imagine a huge portion of users will filter back in. I don't think the current administration has the wherewithal to do the things necessary for a renaissance. There's definitely a possibility for a pheonix rising if someone who gave a shit was in control.

Unless all the Tranny Jannies go An Hero themselves or get scared away by this, nothing will change.
Even the ones that do leave will probably be replaced with Yes-Men that won't change the status quo.

They vill give us NOTHING. We will not be happy.

The only way I'd be happy is if they all got together and did a ritual suicide on stream.
