Graf is truly a work of art. Doesn't he still have a Poast frontend with Soapbox? Then demands the project to be "shut down". There is literally nothing to be gained from the action. Is he going to take on working on Soapbox? No. If he wanted certain patches he would have already forked it. Just discontinue usage of it you whiny faggot.

Nice to see Gleason not repairing the bridge with Graf that Graf just burnt. If a bridge is built, Graf will burn it.

Not to defend graf, but Gleason isn't free of sin, either. Rebased is Gleason's fork of Pleroma that he used to advertise by pointing out how upstream Pleroma is supposedly dead and how he got banned from its project for his beliefs (which is false, he got banned for repeatedly introducing breaking changes in how posts display without consulting the rest of the team). Right now there's around 1000 Pleroma instances, Ctr+F "+so" brings 188 results. Now let's look at when was the last commit in Rebased.
Screenshot_20241012_205854.png
Oof. That's more that half a year without bugfixes or even security fixes. 188 instances with thousands of users on them were left running abandonware with no support except for being advised to fuck off to Nostr instead with its severe spam and CSAM issues that can't be mitigated as easily as in ActivityPub realm.

Graf bumps up the funding goal from 2k, which they've been at for a few months now, to 3k because December costs more?
1732108815204.png

"for the next like, month and a week or two we are going to be aggressively requesting donations and shilling donation links, merch links etc because almost all of the most important and expensive bills come out between December 12 and 21. this is the majority of our operating cost (and why the meter went up from 2-3k because we used to spread this out, but the cost of everything has been going up.

a lot of you are strapped, but if any of you get christmas bonuses or anything you're not using, consider a larger contribution to poast. in the coming year, we should be able to lower the monthly funding goal again, but as it stands we will need to put forward about 17k USD (15k hopefully) by end of year to cover transit, rack, colocation, power, bandwidth and rental fees.

i will try to periodically try to remind everybody for the next month

if you aren't already a patron, consider becoming a monthly contributor at patron.poa.st

or perhaps a one-off donation suits you better, you can do that via give.poast.org

or if you wish to do fiat and want it to be wholly anonymous, consider liberapay.com/poast, all we see from transactions conducted on liberapay.com are "anonymous donation for poast"

perhaps crypto is your preferred payment. we take that too via poa.st/donate/crypto

however you choose to support us, if you choose to, we appreciate you guys. without your support we would not have been able to continue past 2021, and with your support we look forward to many, many years providing the best place to be. love you guys"

This doesn't sound right to me but I have no knowledge of what it takes to run something like Poast and I don't trust Graf either. I still remember his confusing troll from last year of trying to buy Odysee and bitching about no one giving him $500 in the middle of the Goddamned night. Then he does almost the same exact shit here.

There are less than 8 hours in between the the OP, a poast made at 3AM in the east coast, and this one. Maybe it's all a joke but I have no trust in him.

Wow, maybe known expenses ought to amortized in the funding goal for each month of the year, so that you aren't suddenly a thousand dollars short at the EOY.

Budgeting sure must be hard when you're a wet-brained alcoholic.

It is confusing. Talking about costs of racking and power suggests he owns his hardware, but I believe he rents it? Transit costs? He doesn't own his own IP space as far as I know. Does he have yearly commitments with providers? If so, then what was the money he was collecting all year for? He does mention trying to amortize costs, but it's not clear how much of a shortfall this is. A lot of the monthly donations probably went to living expenses.

Pleroma is a bitch but these costs are insane. I wouldn't be surprised if this was all up 10x the operating costs of the Kiwi Farms.

So, I still have poast set as my homepage on one of my browsers for some reason, probably a remnant from when Daddy Jim still used it as his main source of social media.
It's Christmas season, so you have the snow falling effect on the site. Nothing special, so why am I bumping the thread?
Well, I just fired up my browser now, and uh, the snowflakes look different...

Before you ask, I don't know why the page isn't loading fully. I will just chalk it up to the servers being shit, since everything else works fine for me.

Where does null post his updates now? When kf went down due to destiny sucking dicks I tried to check his profile on poa.st, remembering the url from the keffals era, and it hadn't been updated in like two years, I guess there was some kind of falling out with him and the guy who ran the site according to his last post.

He's a professional beggar, the costs are his rent. He puts services online so he can beg for money to run them from retards who don't know how computers work.
My Pleroma server with around 5 or 6 active users is using less than 6% of my 30-day-rolling bandwidth. The only thing Pleroma really uses is CPU and disk space.

The big problems all come from the open signups. You'll get random signups from israeli IPs that do nothing but send each other CSAM and send screenshots of it to your hosting providers. Wignats will be threatening to kill each other for leaking photos of their jewish wives. A thousand anime avatars suddenly decide to spam f5 on your media feed because you said lolicon was (or wasn't) okay. It's like that sport where you grease pigs up and see who can catch one fastest, except instead of grease there's just an incredibly high blood alcohol level

Following the "bro to bro, mano a mano" issue filed on the rebased gitlab, graf has gotten his happy ass banned from GitLab as a whole.

At least he took the tiniest bit of personal responsibility for getting yeeted.

I feel bad for anyone still paying for the privilege of graf hosting their fediverse instances.

Posted this to the 4chan thread as well but Graf has considered buying 4chan from hiroshimoot. Going as far as to email him a 1 million dollar offer. (Which is surprising considering the occasional funding issues he has)
Besides this he seems to intend to federate it via ActivityPub. I'm not entirely certain about how scalable the protocol is, but for the volume it seems insane. Much like attempting to buy it in the first place.

Graf has somehow kept things afloat for this long; who knows, maybe he takes a loan out against everything he has and gets the pay piggies to gib the rest.

Considering who he is, it could happen, unlikely, but he’s been able to keep things moving for this long.

The biggest challenge is contacting hiroshimoot to begin with. I honestly haven't heard anything about or from him since he purchased 4chan. I don't even think he exists at this point. It seems to be just a passive income source for him.
I don't think its going to go through purely on being unable to contact him. If he actually does buy it I'll be here for the fireworks.
