"The reason they say soccer is the biggest sport in the world is because other countries don't have real sport leagues.."

What does that even mean? I know that one of the most common stereotypes about Americans is that they're really ignorant of other countries, but is this person seriously saying that the concept of a national sports league is uniquely American? Or is it because other sport leagues don't generate as much revenue as the American ones? If so that's kind of dumb since the US is the third most populated country in the world so of course they generate higher revenue compared to other developed countries.

I think they're under the impression that the rest of the world doesn't really have sports outside of soccer (not so much in the literal sense, but in the applicable sense of popularity.) It's a very ignorant view of things, but it's pretty common. My impression of soccer being the world's most popular sport is due to it being a relatively easy game to set up as well as being cheap.

That's the thing though. The company I work for, we're diverting all non-necessary travel to the US away from the US and trying to move in person meetings and negotiations to Singapore, Canada or Dubai. This hasn't happened to our company (and won't because we've decided no business travel to US because of this) but there have been Aussie's going to the US on business, with pre-approved visas and paperwork, only to be stopped at the border by some lard arsed customs worker on a powertrip who turns them away and puts them on the next plane back. It not only costs both companies money (due to having to replan, pay for new traviel arrangements etc.), but also the person turned away has a big red mark on their passport which makes it a lot more fucking difficult for them to obtain visas to other countries (which is really fucking bad if it is company sales rep or lawyer).

Since Trump there are members of the CBP that are on a powertrip, and are given full administrative backing to make arbitrary calls with little to no appeal (our companies can't pick up a phone and go higher up the chain because airport Paul Blart felt like being a cunt and exercising powers a year 10 drop out shouldn't have). It is just not worth the risk for anyone needing to do international business to transit through the US, at any stage for anything for the foreseeable future due to how arbitrary and fucked up it is.

This stuff isn't just driving away tourist dollars, it is driving away business.
