Nick claims Supertips is “a million dollar idea” then says it’s “a multi-million dollar company” and classifies it as a “passive income” stream. Which makes no sense since creators get Supertips when they are actively streaming. Nick sure does love liberally sprinkling his word salad with phrases he thinks make him sound clever.

It’s 20 minutes in and he is still troubleshooting his tech issues.

Not sure if it's a TOS violation but people have been using alternate tipping services forever like Streamlabs, BuyMeACoffee, there are a bunch.

I don't think a rule exists that specifically covers this, but it should fall under the blanket "don't do things that harm YouTube" clause.
Because what they are doing is divert money away from the Superchats feature, into a ThirdParty alternative, thereby cutting out YouTube, which could be interpreted as "harm".

It is if the platforms decide it is. Right now it’s still a small fry operation so they’re getting away with it. I wouldn’t bet on that lasting, though Nick hasn’t seemed to consider the possibility. He said he wishes he had been in on Supertips as an investor.
