I've never had symptomatic covid, even though multiple people around me have had it once or twice. It's weird, it's like I am actually immune to it somehow.
back at the beginning of the outbreak there was reason to believet hat it had an asymptomatic rate approaching or exceeding ~50%. I've seen studies pointing out that such rates are probably the norm for corona family viruses. (another way in which this is just like the rest of the family) It's hard to know for sure even then given how easily it spread. But the closest we got was that cruse ship in Japan. Mostly older (50 >) that showed high infection numbers as you'd imagine on ships of that era (pre covid, before newer ventilation systems and filters) but an asymptomatic rate of like ~57%.. And this was of older people. I should caution though, unfortunately the ship was evacuated (older richer people) soon after those numbers and everyone sent home. And not followed up. There is reason why that could matter.
While i'm sill not 100% sure about it, my experience should likely give pause to such unfollowed up data. I originally felt weird and like i lost some sense of smell and maybe taste, almost two full weeks before it "took me out" for a week (primary) or two. (still no energy, taste/smell and lung issues) Got off pretty luck and mild/light though to be sure. I had someone in the house with it already at the early symptoms, so i know i was exposed even then.. but I don't know if i was infected or imagining it. But i have heard similar cases. And my father didn't get sick at all until i did the second time.. We likely got infected at or near the same time. I could have easily missed those early symptoms (if they were) and never noticed.
It could also have been reinfection since i didn't get a reaction the first time. This was also just as Delta was at it's high point. What we had in the end. So maybe first was older version and second was delta.
