There are several much older mental illnesses that have been rolled into autism over the years, and they claim it's a "spectrum" - at this point two people can both get the autism diagnosis despite having 5 or 6 completely disparate symptoms with no overlap with each other. The fact of the matter is that "autism" as it's currently defined is hardly even real, it's a catch-all for "your kid is a bit retarded and medical standards and effectiveness have plummeted in recent years and we don't want to expend effort, offend anyone, or take on any liability whatsoever". In 100 years if/when things are more sane, I'll bet "autism" is fractured into at least 4 separate diagnoses with actual targeted treatment for individual problems, instead of this lazy slop that is beneath even calling "medicine".

Anyone to inept to navigate the social world is autistic, people that don’t like tags in their clothes are autistic, people who only eat chicken tenders are autistic, kids that can’t deal with stress and tantrum are autistic, kids hyper fixated on cartoons are autistic.

Instead of face the fact modern technology isn’t good for kids, we will just Dx them all with autism or ADHD.
