Looking at this I can't help but feel that Linus would be better off if he just retired from YouTube and tech and just enjoyed his life instead. The Badminton Insight channel has a video with him. He is very fit and a pretty good player though he struggles against two recently retired international players. The drills he is doing at 13 to 14 minutes are HARD.
He can't do that, he stepped down from CEO so he could be on camera more. He enjoys nothing more than being the star in his videos.Looking at this I can't help but feel that Linus would be better off if he just retired from YouTube and tech and just enjoyed his life instead.
He's really got to be regretting not taking that buyout he was once offered. Its growing increasingly unlikely he'll see a better deal than that one put on the table. LTTs subscriber base is still growing, but its view growth isn't growing - As in, more subs, more or less same views. So functionally, he's churning, a bit stagnated. In the era of free cash a few years ago, that's still worth buying out, can turn that nearly interest free money into a cashflow generator that is at least stable. Its not a great investment opportunity, but between the free cash and the investor awareness lag on how big (and not) digital media would be that was stoked up from lockdowns, it was one that could be justified. He can't do that, he stepped down from CEO so he could be on camera more. He enjoys nothing more than being the star in his videos.
No, he doesn't regret that at all. He mentions that buyout because he desperately wants his company to have the same kind of valuation as a bona fide 100 million tech company; this desperate reach to be a 'tech' company explains his hard push for LTT labs in order to earn that title. That buyout would have had huge golden handcuffs attached: 5-year non-compete contract with a ton of caveats. For the investors to have a good ROI, they would have had Linus milk his audience for all its worth over those 5 years and if he didn't comply, he would breach the contract and burn a ton of that 100 million. He's really got to be regretting not taking that buyout he was once offered.
It was probably partly his wife's decision as well. I don't think either of them have any idea beyond "I want more money and the best way to get is through micromanaging a herd of perpetual interns".Now he could take a lower offer still, if he could swallow his pride, tell his wife he fucked up the first time, and take the smaller golden parachute. But this is Linus, so it'll basically never happen.
He'd no longer be the boss: there would be an actual CEO
They'd burn down the company he built
Part of that would be his groveling to all sponsors
He'd have to fire a lot of employees
I'm sorry you were saying this would've happened if he'd accepted the buyout? Boi's done all of this himself, without accepting the money.he'd eventually lose his audience as the milking becomes more apparent and obvious.
As I said, an actual CEO, not a puppet CEO that was hired to do all the dirty work for, but has none of the authority to control, Linus. The company hasn't burnt down and still has a significant audience which he could milk even further if he wanted to; they've fired some employees, but they're still a bloated company and an active investor would cull without mercy and to subsistence-level. At the Whale LAN, he basically called out all the sponsors of the event at the event in front of the whole crowd; his attitude towards sponsors is anything but groveling.I'm sorry you were saying this would've happened if he'd accepted the buyout? Boi's done all of this himself, without accepting the money.
I expect the next thing for them to fail at will be cars, since so many spergs on staff like it and Linus keeps making car content.
The problem is, the youtube growth and expansion on car channels is over, and its a contracting space imo.
I don't think he owns most of those outrightIf Linus doesn't bankrupt his company, his kids are set for life, he owns 2 big warehourses, an sports center and probably a few undisclosed avenues.
There was that unexpected Mighty Car Mods crossover a while back.I expect the next thing for them to fail at will be cars, since so many spergs on staff like it and Linus keeps making car content.
Hah, you're not thinking lame enough. A Linus car crossover with another youtuber would 100% be with Marques Brownlee.Part of me wants to see a crossover with someone like Cleetus, as it could be unintentionally hilarious. However any sort of vehicular crossover would probably be with someone more milquetoast like Tyler Hoover or that guy from CarWow. Or maybe some homo EV evangelism channel, like the one with Kryten from Red Dwarf in it.
But who would get to read the press release and who sucks the company cock?Hah, you're not thinking lame enough. A Linus car crossover with another youtuber would 100% be with Marques Brownlee.
Dell is pretty much worst offender with non-standard parts. It would be last on my any recommendation list unless extremely cheap second-hand...Didn't even realize they're final part of Secret Shopper came out, Dell won (which makes the whole thing feel fake because no one ever wants a Dell outside of office work). And the views as I type this are only at 713K 3 Days in, that's a massive ACK! of a video.
A black meets white tech comedy! It'd be like Rush Hour, but tech!A Linus car crossover with another youtuber would 100% be with Marques Brownlee.
I hadn't heard his sister offed herself. Honestly though, the people I've known who killed themselves have always had some of the absolute worst families. Maybe Linus is trying to shift the blame to femceldom instead of himself.Linus finally reveals his sister killed herself and why she did it.
Their laptops use to be good, but they've really gone to shit. One only has to look at any of the GamersNexus Alienware videos to know they've always been total trash. GN does much better pre-build reviews and would obviously have much better advice/choices.Dell is pretty much worst offender with non-standard parts. It would be last on my any recommendation list unless extremely cheap second-hand...
