Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
The Badminton Insight channel has a video with him. He is very fit and a pretty good player though he struggles against two recently retired international players. The drills he is doing at 13 to 14 minutes are HARD.

Looking at this I can't help but feel that Linus would be better off if he just retired from YouTube and tech and just enjoyed his life instead.

He can't do that, he stepped down from CEO so he could be on camera more. He enjoys nothing more than being the star in his videos.
He's really got to be regretting not taking that buyout he was once offered. Its growing increasingly unlikely he'll see a better deal than that one put on the table. LTTs subscriber base is still growing, but its view growth isn't growing - As in, more subs, more or less same views. So functionally, he's churning, a bit stagnated. In the era of free cash a few years ago, that's still worth buying out, can turn that nearly interest free money into a cashflow generator that is at least stable. Its not a great investment opportunity, but between the free cash and the investor awareness lag on how big (and not) digital media would be that was stoked up from lockdowns, it was one that could be justified.

Now? Now investors are more aware and savvy about saturation, not just in a single market but in the overall market as a whole. They're also realizing that digital does have a ceiling for growth, and way more businesses have hit it than are able to admit it. The shitshow of the streaming wars has brought many of them to acknowledge that playing for market share ends up killing them as consumers become saturated with alternatives, that all have to spend way too much to meet minimum market expectations. Now investors don't tend to get smart so much as they get wary, so they're less keen right now about dumping money into stagnant or low revenue ventures on the assumption that they can always just scale up.

This has pretty much fucked LTT's acquisition opportunity. It was already a niche media company, but a large one, and Linus clearly had illusions that LTT could become even bigger, more crazy, labs etc. He'd easily be pitching it as "The growth potential is enormous". Now that turns off investors, and without that, LTT doesn't have anything valuable at all. Rotating door of entry level content producers, generic content space, no particular brand niche - Closer to mcdonalds in the sense that its for everyone but especially for nobody. Only valuable asset is his merch and warehouse, not so much because of revenue as connections, but you don't buy a media company for its inventory management arm. Everything else is only worth buying cheap, not at a premium.

Now he could take a lower offer still, if he could swallow his pride, tell his wife he fucked up the first time, and take the smaller golden parachute. But this is Linus, so it'll basically never happen.

He's really got to be regretting not taking that buyout he was once offered.
No, he doesn't regret that at all. He mentions that buyout because he desperately wants his company to have the same kind of valuation as a bona fide 100 million tech company; this desperate reach to be a 'tech' company explains his hard push for LTT labs in order to earn that title. That buyout would have had huge golden handcuffs attached: 5-year non-compete contract with a ton of caveats. For the investors to have a good ROI, they would have had Linus milk his audience for all its worth over those 5 years and if he didn't comply, he would breach the contract and burn a ton of that 100 million.

He'd no longer be the boss: there would be an actual CEO and board he'd have to answer to. Linus hates taking orders and I cannot imagine the tantrum he would exhibit if one of the 'money men who has no clue how youtube works' told him what to do. They'd burn down the company he built and intentionally they would do that to recoup the investment and gain profit. Part of that would be his groveling to all sponsors and in his position of power in the last number of years over companies and sponsors, he has not been gracious and those companies will respond in kind. He'd have to fire a lot of employees as the business is streamlined and this would shatter his cult of personality; if you lick his ass and mythologize him, he will keep you around and if this is no longer true, his cult dissolves. And the most important of all, he'd eventually lose his audience as the milking becomes more apparent and obvious. Linus' audience is his ego.

So, yeah, his kids and grandkids may regret that decision, but Linus definitely does not.

It was probably partly his wife's decision as well. I don't think either of them have any idea beyond "I want more money and the best way to get is through micromanaging a herd of perpetual interns".

I'm sorry you were saying this would've happened if he'd accepted the buyout? Boi's done all of this himself, without accepting the money.

He sold out to every penny that was thrown at him; or at least, that's the very obvious impression that I see when I have the misfortune to be in front of any of his recent vids.

As I said, an actual CEO, not a puppet CEO that was hired to do all the dirty work for, but has none of the authority to control, Linus. The company hasn't burnt down and still has a significant audience which he could milk even further if he wanted to; they've fired some employees, but they're still a bloated company and an active investor would cull without mercy and to subsistence-level. At the Whale LAN, he basically called out all the sponsors of the event at the event in front of the whole crowd; his attitude towards sponsors is anything but groveling.

The reason Linus has to be on camera is that a majority of the people that the audience liked presenting have either left or been promoted to positions where they no longer present.
The whole company is the epitome of promoting people above their skill level, leading to overall worse functioning company.

The other problem with this is that the value of the company is just him, so no one will actually buy it without him being locked in for a number of years.
As Linus become more and more of an insufferable asshole, and people are on the receiving end or get sick of it, the audience will contract even more

The logistics, the editors, the warehouse, the labs are all second rate hodgepodge of cast offs that do everything to mostly par, but don't exceed at anything in particular.

Every pivot to get more of an audience has failed. No one wanted his low effort news content, ai reviews, game channel, etc.

The Short Circuit channel only still exists because it is probably very profitable despite lower viewership, because it is just a glorified HSN on youtube.
People pay to showcase an item, do a quick 10 minute video unboxing and no research or major editing.

I expect the next thing for them to fail at will be cars, since so many spergs on staff like it and Linus keeps making car content.
The problem is, the youtube growth and expansion on car channels is over, and its a contracting space imo.

If Linus doesn't bankrupt his company, his kids are set for life, he owns 2 big warehourses, an sports center and probably a few undisclosed avenues.

While I don't have a lot of ideas about the sports center, warehouses like that when rented are around 5 to 6 figures per month and in a big place like BC they're rare and seeked by a lot of companies, if he sees that LTT is going down and can avoid bankrupcy, those 2 warehouses alone will feed they, their kids and even grandsons(if they don't become fags) for the rest of their lifes without needing a lot of work, they will just need to start living as upper middle-classs instead of upper-class, the sports center could be sold for a good penny that would let them to get a few more real-state investments.

I doubt that they will do it, but one thing that could give a lot of viewership to the car channel, would be "techfying" a car in the proper way, like when Donut did with the Miata.

A good video idea for that for example would be taking a cheap BMW or Toyota without Android Auto, heated/cooled seats and other optionals and upgrade everything with third party, a lot of time you can get a better car for less(and without subscription like BMW does for heated seats)

There was that unexpected Mighty Car Mods crossover a while back.

Part of me wants to see a crossover with someone like Cleetus, as it could be unintentionally hilarious. However any sort of vehicular crossover would probably be with someone more milquetoast like Tyler Hoover or that guy from CarWow. Or maybe some homo EV evangelism channel, like the one with Kryten from Red Dwarf in it.

Hah, you're not thinking lame enough. A Linus car crossover with another youtuber would 100% be with Marques Brownlee.

Didn't even realize they're final part of Secret Shopper came out, Dell won (which makes the whole thing feel fake because no one ever wants a Dell outside of office work). And the views as I type this are only at 713K 3 Days in, that's a massive ACK! of a video.

edit: the Kitboga collab is up now, already at 713K views after only a day.

Dell is pretty much worst offender with non-standard parts. It would be last on my any recommendation list unless extremely cheap second-hand...

A black meets white tech comedy! It'd be like Rush Hour, but tech! 🍿

Linus finally reveals his sister killed herself and why she did it.
I hadn't heard his sister offed herself. Honestly though, the people I've known who killed themselves have always had some of the absolute worst families. Maybe Linus is trying to shift the blame to femceldom instead of himself.

Their laptops use to be good, but they've really gone to shit. One only has to look at any of the GamersNexus Alienware videos to know they've always been total trash. GN does much better pre-build reviews and would obviously have much better advice/choices.
