I've hesitated to rip on the cops as, in the end, they busted Nick. But, man, the descriptions of that raid seemed very Mayberry to me. I can see a daunting hoard disssuading cops who think they are just doing a possession raid... but a raid that starts looking like a trafficking situation? If it was as lazy and half-assed as K makes it sound, the cops really blew a chance to tack on some trafficking charges. Something is really rotten here.

People don't like to think about it, but quite often in small county situations the biggest drug hustlers in the market is the local sheriff and the state prosecutor. Those two can make a shit ton of money if they both go into business together. Even better, everyone knows not to say shit either because the two of them together can very easily wreck you in a way that is perfectly above board.

Not saying that is the case here, but in general this would be the most likely reason why a Sherriff and Prosecuting attorney suddenly cut a sweet heart deal with a major druggie and then sweep it up for him.

When streaming he would generally remember the things he had been taught in school. But around 2022-23, he started really slipping. He started getting real basic things about the law wrong and nobody could tell him otherwise.

They'd probably been watching him for some time and knew he never left the house or had visitors other than the obvious. A drug house has a constant flow of visitors. I think if they'd intended to go really hard they would have anyway, but I don't think a normal investigation would have turned up evidence of distribution (other than the kind of social use that theoretically can be but is almost never prosecuted as such).

It seems like he was more of a drug hoarder and he'd just buy cocaine whenever he could, rather than that he was always buying large quantities and then splitting them up like a dealer would.
