I’ve read that wetting your hair before swimming really helps, keeps the chlorine from being able to saturate your hair(?).
I don’t know whether that’s true or not, but you should still wash off before going into a public pool. Everyone should, just to eliminate as much filth before it can get into the water as possible. Then you need to absolutely purge wash yourself after you get out, think showering in bleach levels, because most people, men and children especially, are absolutely filthy.

Yes, I’m a germaphobe and would never willingly step foot in a public pool, how could you tell?

For those of you lady kiwis that train for hypertrophy, do you approach it in any specific way because of being a female?
Right now I'm not doing anything differently from my husband: both of us will do our sets until failure, even squeeze in a bit of half reps with drop sets. While I know that our menstrual cycle affects our performance, I'm trying to not overthink it and just stick to comparing my progress to my previous session. I do this because I don't consider myself a super serious lifter looking for any bit of optimisation I can. I'm just a normal woman lifting heavy things and if I do this consistently, I know I will get results.

That said, there is a video I've been meaning to watch, about whether or not men and women should train differently. It's by Renaissance Periodization, one of the science bros of bodybuilding.

Maybe there's something useful for us in this video? I'll try to watch it tmr. It had been sitting in my Watch Later list for months...

I'm planning on getting a gym membership for the first time ever in a couple weeks. I already know the common sense aspects of gym etiquette (wipe things down after using them, wear sandals in the shower, DEODORANT IS MANDATORY, etc), but are there any other lesser known/unspoken rules I should be aware of?
Also, anybody know a good place to buy workout clothes made of cotton? Been trying to pick my way through thrift stores, but I'd be willing to buy new if the vibes are right.

There is a form a sign people use. It doesn't need to be exact nor specific signs, but it is preferable to speaking to people.

e.g.
👈👍👎 = "This machine (I use it)?"
👍 = "Yes, you can use it"
or
👋 = "It is not I who is using it"

You do not understand how much I hate nylon/polyester/spandex being the norm for women at the gym, I don't get how its comfortable when artificial fibers just pool sweat between the fabric and your skin. If you don't care about how it looks you can probably find baggy male sweats made of cotton anywhere, good luck finding women's clothes that aren't atleast 50% polyester and doesn't cost 4x the price it should.

I don't know if its a woman thing or if its only trannies who worry about "getting too muscular" but no woman should care about "getting too muscular" and avoid lifting weights, it takes atleast 6 months, eating at maintenance or excess, and eating substantial protein to build noticeable muscle (not strength, that takes a few weeks) for guys, for women its even harder, takes longer, and you build less muscle which ends up being less visible anyway due to fat distribution covering it. You can simply stop lifting weights or stop adding reps/weight and you'll stop growth if you ever notice anything "too big"
Nigga, that sounds a whole lot like an excuse to not GET THEM GAINS!

Was leanbeafpatty confirmed to have been taking steroids or something at one point? Or was that just sour grapes tranny rumors? Not taking them currently but just at one point potentially before she got popular?

Nothing that I can gather online, but she doesn't have a steroid physique to begin with (not ridiculously big, not too veiny, not too shredded). I see no reason for Patty to not be natural; according to her background she was a gymnast for years as a kid before she got into bodybuilding, has been continuously working out 5+ days for several years post-gymnast, eats large healthy meals with an abundance of protein everyday, etc.

Anyone hellbent on Patty being "a heckin' steroid-abusing PED fake natty BISH" are just jealous niggers that would breakdown trying to lift two water jugs.

Your thoughts on home gym? I'm thinking of making one.

I'm tired of having to wait to use the equipment at my gym and also I can be as cringe and pathetic as I want in the privacy of my own home.

I'm pretty good at spotting enhanced females and I think Patty is natty. She has that dyel physique and honestly she's not that big. She got low body fat that makes even the most mediocre amount of muscle stand out.

This is just the skinny fat version of "I'm afraid I'll look anorexic" for fatties.

I started free-weight strength training about two months ago with my husband. I've lost significant weight as a beginner and gained some brand new muscles I never had even when I was seriously training for volleyball and martial arts in my youth. Very happy with how it's going. One day I was laughing about how every other chick I see at the gym is Leg Day Everyday doing 3+ variations of squats. The next lady that walked in pounded out 10 clean pull-ups and proceeded to destroy my husband's PBs, and I've never been more humbled. Goals.

The body dysmorphia is real. As I enter the early stages of mid-life crisis, I thought I had already made peace with my body doing whatever and looking however so long as it doesn't feel like shit. Or so I thought: I still don't care about fat loss, but every once in a while I catch myself thinking ana-chan thoughts about my fat distribution and lack of hypertrophy. My husband stopped making comments that I'm losing weight because I would immediately grab my belly roll as a joke because I can't take the compliment. I hate saying that it feels like another puberty. Sometimes I look at myself in the mirror and it doesn't feel like it's happening to me -- even when my progress is trackable, measurable, and statistically significant, even if the results are visible.

I had a gym membership for awhile but only went sporadically last year (1-2x a month). I started going regularly (1-2x a week) at the beginning of the year. The habit eventually stuck and needless to say strength training has become one of my special interests now. I've been going more and more often and now I'm at 3-4x a week.

I go to the cheap purple gym, but they renovated mine awhile back so they have a decent amount of free weights too. I started out just doing basic machines, but have been slowly adding plate-loaded machines and dumb bell exercises to my repertoire. Barbell stuff is next, as I build up my strength. I record all my workouts and the weights I use and I've been seeing real improvements over time. Naturally as a lady, my legs are much stronger than my upper. Some recent milestones have been doing 3 big plates on each side for the leg press (270 lbs total, not counting what the empty machine adds), and leveling up to bicep curls with a 40 pound EZ bar. My chest press has doubled, but it's still not overly impressive since I started at 20lbs. My main concern is getting the form right for free weights. I'm still always worried I look like a doofus sometimes.

I've noticed a slight "toned" feeling in some muscles now, but outwardly my body doesn't look much different. I've been eating at maintenance so far so CICO is proving itself accurate. I'm currently trying to switch to a slight deficit to slowly lose a few pounds. In BMI terms I'm slightly overweight and started this journey in part to lower my high fat percentage.

NIGGERS WON’T RERACK THEIR FUCKING PLATES
Heathens at my gym will also just leave them out on the floor. Honestly, they're just cheating themselves out of a little extra workout.

Do not do sets in front of the weight rack. Step back. Let people work in if they want on a machine. If you're resting, let someone else use it. Try and avoid doing non power rack lifts in the power racks, eg doing barbell curls.

Leanbeefpatty is 100% not natural, come on. There are guys that would struggle natty at her body fat to get that big. Anybody that thinks otherwise just doesn't have enough experience in the gym imo. They've got too much experience with seeing social media lifters tho, where the top 10% of accounts are all juiced to the gills on PEDs.

I mean come on, that 2nd picture is a dead giveaway. Women 100% cannot get traps to pop like that without some T. Is she on absurd amounts like Ilona? Nah, but she's certainly supplementing from time to time. People just want to believe certain things about some lifters they follow even when the preponderance of evidence (including who they hang out with on social media) points towards the juice. It's really bad for young men and women to see these artificial bodies and think it's natural.

This redditor (amazingly) explained it perfectly:

It's not just that she's got big muscles usually associated with T, it's that she's got those big muscles at an absurdly low BF% for a natty woman and did it as a mature lifter coming from a gynmastics background. You don't go from a regular looking female athlete to that physique without some T along the way.

just a random male kiwi dropping in to encourage women to lift. dont need to be buff, but lifting weights is good. not only do tone, but not buff women look good, but i appreciate a woamn who is actually strong enough to help move a couch, open a jar, etc.
Besides being more toned, I started strength training to just be stronger in general. I really enjoy the idea of being able to pick people up too. That's probably not feasible when it comes to heavier people, but I have a couple male friends that are like 140 pounds soaking wet and I can do the "hug and lift up" move. It's a start. Also I have disadvantage on strength checks to open jars so I might as well level up on that too.

I see a lot of content about gym crushes, but I almost never see someone I'm attracted to at the gym. And if I do, I see them once and never again. I know I'm way too plain to be anyone else's gym crush. But a druid can hope.

Does anyone have a favourite pair of walking shoes? I’ve got an appointment at the athletes foot because I’m dealing with a fucky ankle (torn ATFL is a thorn in my fucking side) and was hoping to see any brand/model suggestions. No jogging, think walking on paved footpaths through parks.

I’ve also signed up for reformer Pilates again which I’m excited to get back to and water aerobics (in a fancy mineral hydro pool).

While not as cool as chicks who lift, I’m glad to be back on the horse, so to speak.

You're going to think I'm pulling your leg, but Whitin barefoot shoes. They don't LOOK like barefoot shoes, but I love the damn things.

Do you guys wear thermal leggings during early winter? I'm thinking of getting a pair but I don't know if they can withstand single digit Celsius weather. Or should I just layer up with a pair of jeans over my leggings?

For working out, or just for going to the gym?

Riding my bike from my house to the gym in the winter, I’d wear these fleece-lined leggings and they fucking ruled. Would change into my regular leggings at the gym. However, I’m moving somewhere Not Cold soon, so won’t have that problem anymore.

Anyway, I leg pressed 220lbs today which was dope.
