They might wish that they could self-immolate and create an international spectacle like Thich Quang Duc did in South Vietnam but they're missing out on a crucial detail: Thich Quang Duc's immolation was both a protest against the South Vietnamese puppet dictatorship the CIA backed, and a miracle within Vietnamese Buddhist tradition. There are testimonies from both laypeople who witnessed the event and the people who photographed his body on fire while never faltering from an upright seated lotus position. Why? Because he was so steadfast in his devotion to the cause and the teachings of the Buddha dharma that pain could no longer affect him. He did not die flailing in agony, demanding help, or impotently demanding revolution in another country while insulated from the rest of the world in America. Seriously, what the shit is up with Free Palestine protesters, or any protesters for that matter, trying to self-immolate to bring attention to their cause. Did no one ever think "hey, let me sign up for Doctors Without Borders" and do some actual community service or something? Jesus, what a complete and utter waste of a life. Her movements and voice give the impression that every waking moment is horribly painful for her and her videos are more viscerally disturbing than the worst of the SRS thread. As for motives for doing it, I think it’s a mix of extreme disconnect from their bodies until reality is too hard to ignore (as evidenced by her and Segal’s words, or much like how many troons only realize what they did to their bodies after SRS), and that extremists see self destruction as the ultimate commitment to the cause. That whole “Death before detransition,” or in her case, “look how much I stand for Palestine by setting myself on fire.” Only she survived and saw that her attempted martyrdom was for naught much too late.
