Yeah, but with things working this way people always will only do what gives them acknowledgement from more influential people. I like Ross for staying the way he always was and not making accommodations for the "YouTube META" in his videos. I certainly would not watch him anymore if he starts to act and speech in a way to attract the modern greek gods like anyone else is doing now because it would guarantee more success in what he does.
Just dropping the server binaries may not be enough (anymore), as it may use 3rd-party-software not licensed to be distributed this way, and may also be dependent on 3rd-party-microservices. Even publishing the source code with all the ressources may not do the trick because of licensing issues or very special build tools and dependencies needed that are not publicly available. Games need to be build with a post-lifetime-plan in mind. That would require work and effort, and multi-billion dollar game companies are too spoiled by gamers fixing their shit for free to be bothered with that. That's why this legislation is needed.

that is a viewpoint i agree with, people go on about the glory of modding, and yes it is good, i feel a lot of modern modding is just "free work for the devs" to fix gameplay/graphical/techinal issues, that the devs should be doing in the first place, with Bethesada games being the worst with that mindset. that "modding makes it better" when moddding makes it bearable and actual function
PirateSoftware was in a Dire Maul west run and they overpulled treant trash before the first boss. PirateSoftware was a frost mage and not responsible for the overpull, but used every trick and cooldown to run and save his own skin instead of AOEing to maybe help someone survive the fight or at least slow the pursuers down so anyone could escape with him.
